A unique school is not far from you and they need your help! Rocky Mountain Deaf School (RMDS) is hosting their 2nd Annual Vista 5K Run and Walk event on Sunday, October 29, 2017. The 5K Vista Run is beautiful trail run on and near the RMDS campus at the Fehringer Ranch Park. Wear your costumes for a chance to win a prize! Stay after the race for a free hearty meal and for the Trunk or Treat event. Decorate your trunk and see the smiles on the kids and/or bring your kids for a fun and safe trick or treating experience!
Rocky Mountain Deaf School (RMDS) is a one of a kind non-profit Charter School located in the Jefferson County School District. We believe that deaf and hard of hearing students can and should succeed. Our bilingual learning environment recognizes the students’ distinct language and culture while promoting strong American Sign Language (ASL) and English literacy skills. Our school has a high performing educational program based on rigorous curriculum and research-based teaching strategies. We offer a wide range of programs from preschool through high school. The money raised from the event will directly benefit the students.
Come to the fundraiser either as a runner, walker, volunteer, sponsor, or as a visitor. You do not need to know someone, be part of the RMDS community or even know sign language to attend the amazing and unique 5K fundraiser! Everyone is welcome! In fact, there will be signs posted along the trail with ASL words so you can learn how to sign as you run or walk! This year, you will learn how to sign Halloween related words such as zombies, witches, etc! The 5K is timed so you can run or walk against your personal best time. My deaf son was 5 years old when he walked the entire 5K route in one hour. If he can do it, so can you!
Please register soon to get an early bird rate. The deadline to register online is on Oct. 29th at 5 PM. After this date, come on race day to register in person. Or just come to visit on Oct. 29th if that is what you prefer. We will have hearty meals for sale as well as hot chocolate and hot cider drinks. We also will have ASL playing cards for sale which may be a perfect holiday gift for someone!
We are also looking for more sponsors so please let me know if you can help with this.
