The 13th Floor will once again spread an anti-bullying message with the “Don’t Be A Monster” campaign to students in schools throughout the Denver-metro area September – November. The goal is to educate youth about the affects and consequences of bullying through captivating presentations that are energetic, touching and inspiring. “Don’t Be A Monster” focuses on choices students can make when it comes to bullying, and how it will impact their lives as well as the lives of those around them. We’re big Disney fans (be sure to stay tuned for details of the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration).
But as much as we love Mickey, my kids don’t typically wear commercial clothing so I was unsure what my son would think about Kohl’s Department Store’s new Disney-branded apparel collection for kids under the Jumping Beans brand. My description of having our own little “fashion show” didn’t sit well with him either because as it turns out, most little boys aren’t into the runway scene. #WhoKnew?
The boy’s collection? It was right up the alley for a cool 7-year-old dude. All the clothes followed the same color pattern so were interchangable, they weren’t “cheesy” (his words, not mine) and if you have a sports-lover, there is plenty to love.

Wit, Wisdom, and Wine: One Woman’s “Confessions of a Mediocre Widow”
While Mile High Mama blogger Catherine Tidd has spent the last few years developing a global online support group for widows and widowers (www.theWiddahood.com), she has also been hard at work on her memoir, Confessions of a Mediocre Widow, which took the number two spot on the local nonfiction bestseller list less than two weeks after its release. In her first interview with us, she talks about everything from finding humor in grief to dating as a single parent. And we are excited to be giving away three copies of her book (see below)!
Confessions of a Mediocre Widow is the book I wanted when my husband died in 2007. I was 31-years-old with three small children and most of the books that I came across were either too clinical/self-help for me or were memoirs written by older widows. I needed something that I could relate to and I wanted a book that read more like a story than something that outlined the stages of grief.

My technological tendencies frustrate my husband Jamie to no end. I constantly view videos vertically instead of horizontally on my iPhone. I’d rather watch movies on the small TV in our bedroom versus his 84-inch HDTV in the basement. And I buy cheap headphones from (wait for it) the dollar store or Big Lots.

Sound. My first thought when I put them on was “whoa, listen to that bass!” Music sounds crisper, cleaner and richer with very low distortion at high volume…it’s like I’m sitting in a DJ booth spinning tunes! Watching movies from my computer with the headphones has never been better. Wireless options for headsets have come a long way. They used to have unreliable connections and a serious drop in audio quality compared to their wired counterparts. Nowadays, wireless earphones have dramatically improved in all areas and are easier to pair with devices.

I Won A Trip to See Taylor Swift in Los Angeles: A Mother-daughter Adventure!
So you know those contests that they have on the radio: “Win a trip to see some super artist in some tropical sounding location.” I have to admit, that sometimes I think it is not really possible to actually WIN one of those trips. That, in addition, to the fact that I am probably the most unlucky person there is!
I was at a “Live at Five” concert with Alice 105.9 radio station. I had gone because they had an artist performing there that had won American Idol, Lee Dewyze. I thought that in and of itself was pretty cool. Free concert! I’m in! While I was there I put my name on a piece of paper. They were giving away two trips – one to see Bon Jovi in New Jersey and the other to see Taylor Swift in Los Angeles. As I wrote my name down, I said out loud, “I would rather win the Taylor trip cause I’d rather go to L.A.”
