I try not to be on phone calls too much when I am with my kids (I only have them part-time since I’m divorced) – even my sister and parents have to wait until I’m not with them for any lengthy calls. Not only do I do this because I want to give my kids my attention – but inevitably that is when they need me most, have some blow out fight with each other or some other catastrophe. But, I have this friend who now lives in Arkansas (she spent some time in Texas). I find that my kids are more forgiving of needing my attention when I am on the phone with her – and they can usually tell it is her when a “short” call is somewhere around an hour.
