Winter Fun for All Ages at Mountaineering Weekend!
posted by: Amber Johnson
YMCA of the Rockies is located on 860 acres with three sides bordering Rocky Mountain National Park, providing the perfect landscape for outdoor enthusiasts and their families (and dogs) to explore mountaineering. Whether it’s your first time out, or your family has camped in national parks many times, this special event has excursions for every level.
Explore a snow cave, play a game of broomball on ice, try your hand at ice-anchors, climb the indoor climbing wall, and join a winter ecology hike or snowshoe in RMNP.
Guest speaker Quinn Brett: The experienced alpine climber has climbed mountains throughout the world, reveling in the freedom of movement but also advocating for safekeeping of these special places. She worked as a climbing ranger Rocky Mountain National Park, technical rescuer and first responder. In October 2017, she took a big fall while rock climbing in Yosemite National Park, causing paralysis below the navel. Her drive to cover long distances over technically complex terrain continues, so does her advocacy and adventure love for wild spaces.
Younger children’s activities include special storytimes, kid-lead hikes and fun snow activities (with hot chocolate of course).
Regular YMCA of the Rockies programs will be running throughout the weekend, providing a great opportunity to check out the Craft and Design Center, rent some ice skates(weather depending), or take a dip in the indoor pool.
