This two-part concert series will engage young learners with the instruments of the orchestra and the performing arts. Register for both concerts at the same time and receive a 10% discount off tickets.
Unique Concert Experience – 10:15AM
During the performance, the audience is encircled on all sides by 16 professional musicians and additional guest performers while the conductor faces the students in the audience and teaches them about the music as it’s being performed. Students are encouraged to think creatively, musicians will give short demonstrations, and students will get to think critically and creatively about the music.
January 2020 Performance: Learn all about the string and woodwind families at this performance. How does a double reed instrument make its sound? How tall is a string bass? What is the highest sounding instrument in the orchestra? Learn the answers to all those questions and more.
May 2020 Performance: The music performed will feature the loudest and shiniest instruments of the orchestra – the brass and percussion families. Kids will delight in trumpet fanfares, learn about some of the hundreds of percussion instruments, and one student will even get the chance to play along with the orchestra (but don’t worry, no previous musical experience will be required)!
Enrichment Activities – 9:15-10:15AM OR 11:00AM-12:00PM
The music during the concerts and the add-on activities will teach students all about the instruments in each family, how they make their sound, and get them hands-on experiences. Enjoy instrument petting zoos, up close musician demonstrations, STEAM activities, and more.
Activities will occur for one hour immediately before or after the concert. Upon registration, you will receive information on which session you are scheduled to attend. Activity sessions will be from 9:15-10:15 and 11:00-12:00.
