Civic Center Park
From Feb. 22-24, Denver will host the UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup Finals at Civic Center Park along with a new free winter festival called BARBEGAZI.
During the competition, nearly 70 elite athletes from 18 countries will compete for glory on jaw-dropping, 50-feet-tall walls of sheer ice in two events: Speed and Lead. The Speed event is an all-out vertical sprint to the top of the wall using ice axes and crampons. In the Lead event, ice climbers will employ both technique and strength to ascend the wall, often upside-down or hanging on by one point of contact.
All weekend long at Civic Center Park, visitors and locals alike will be able to enjoy BARBEGAZI, which means “frozen beard,” a free winter festival with fun for all ages, including axe throwing, a huge ice maze, a fat tire biking course, food trucks, an ice bar and beer garden, music by local favorites Dragondeer and more.
