Daily Deal-Saving Money at Restaurants

Love to eat out?  Finding yourself spending way too much money at the restaurant?  This week’s Thursday Thrifty Tip is how to save money at restaurants.

Drink Water-This is one of the things my husband and I are sure to do almost every time we eat out.  Drinks at restaurants are expensive whether it’s a soda, lemonade, tea, or alcoholic beverage.  Occasionally we’ll treat ourselves to something other than water, but usually it’s water with lemon.  We easily save $5 by drinking water!

Eat lunch instead of dinner or go early-Many restaurants have a separate lunch menu which is much cheaper than the dinner menu.  If you can, meet for lunch.  Chances are you’ll save money!  You may also save money by going to a restaurant early.  Some restaurants have ‘early bird’ specials to help you save money.

Share a meal-Many times we are given way too much at restaurants anyways, so why not share a meal?  Get a side salad or dessert to help fill you up(chances are you’ll spend less on salad or dessert than another entree).

Use coupons-Occasionally we’ll get restaurant coupons in the mail, but be sure to check restaurant websites for coupons.  Many places offer a free appetizer or dessert when you sign up to receive their emails.  Another good source for restaurant coupons is restaurants.com

Find a place with free kids meals-Certain restaurants have kids eat free nights.  Be sure to take advantage of that offer.  Many times it’s during the week when they aren’t quite as busy.

Go for dessert-I love going with my friends for dessert.  Nothing beats chatting over a piece of cheesecake with my best friend!  Plus it’s much cheaper!

There are many ways to save money when you’re eating out.  Some may seem like no-brainers, but they’re easy steps to save money and stretch your dollar.

What ways have you tried to cut back on the expense of eating out?

Daily Deal-Thursday’s Thrifty Tip

It’s time for Thursday’s Thrifty Tip again!

How’d you do last week?  Did you think twice before buying that new pair of shoes, adorable outfit for your little one, or that beautiful picture for your bare wall?

This week addresses YOU.  As moms we need to treat ourselves occasionally.

There are things you can do to treat yourself without spending a dime!  We don’t want to feel deprived.  I know if I’m feeling deprived I end up spending WAY more money than I should!

Today’s tip: Think of 5 things you do that are ‘treats’ to you but don’t cost a lot or are free.

I’ll start!

  • Go for a long walk-without the kids and husband
  • Read a good book
  • Close my bedroom door and catch up with a friend-with NO interruptions!
  • Browse around my favorite clothing store-I love to look and see what’s in style
  • Have a girls night out at a friends and relax

All of these require my husband to take the kids, but it’s so important for us to take a break from the crazy life we live as a mom and relax a little.

These may not seem like a big deal to some people, but I think most moms can relate to how much of a difference it makes when we get a little time to ourselves and can treat ourselves!

What do you like to do to treat  yourself?  Do you take time for yourself?
