Motherhood is a beautiful, transformative journey, but it also comes with its share of challenges. We recently posted the question to Denver moms, “What’s the toughest part of being a mom?” on social media and here are a few of your responses:
1. The Relentlessness
There are no true breaks. The mental load—constantly planning, worrying, and making decisions—never fully turns off.
2. Letting Go
Watching your child grow up and gain independence is both rewarding and heartbreaking. The bittersweet reality of time passing can be one of the hardest emotional hurdles.
3. Mom Guilt
No matter what you do, it can feel like it’s never enough. Balancing work, relationships, self-care, and parenting often leads to guilt over what gets sacrificed.
4. The Fear of Failing
There’s an overwhelming sense of responsibility to “get it right,” yet there’s no handbook with all the answers. The weight of shaping another human life can feel immense.
5. Seeing Them Struggle
No matter how much you want to protect them, kids will face disappointment, pain, and hardship. Knowing you can’t shield them from everything is one of the most painful parts of parenting.
6. Losing Yourself (Temporarily)
Motherhood can consume so much of your identity that it’s easy to forget who you were before. Reconnecting with yourself while being fully present for your child is a delicate balance.
7. The Never-Ending Worry
From the moment they’re born (and even before), worry becomes a constant companion—whether it’s about their health, happiness, friendships, or future.
Despite these challenges, motherhood is filled with irreplaceable moments of joy, love, and deep connection. What part of motherhood do you find the hardest?
