Getting pinched on St. Patrick’s Day is one of my least favorite parts of this fun day so it made me wonder, where does this even come from?
Why do people pinch on St. Patrick’s Day?
The tradition of pinching on St. Patrick’s Day comes from American folklore, not Irish history! According to legend:
- Leprechauns are mischievous creatures who sneak around pinching people.
- Wearing green supposedly makes you invisible to leprechauns, so they can’t pinch you!
- If someone isn’t wearing green, they’re “fair game” for a pinch to remind them to join in the fun.
Even though it’s a playful tradition, remind your kiddos not to take it too far.
