The Denver Art Museum (DAM) invites visitors to step into the future of museum experiences with ARtventure!
This new arts-meets-technology program, co-designed with Open Arcana Studio, is a self-led augmented reality tour for families where visitors can check out a tablet at the front desk of the museum’s Martin building with the ARtventure program.
ARtventure prompts users to investigate different artworks from the museum’s collection, including the larger-than-life Mud Woman Rolls On, a sculpture by Roxanne Swentzell in the museum’s Native Arts collection, located in the 3rd floor of the Martin Building.
Powered by a tablet and creativity, the museum becomes the canvas for an immersive gaming adventure as young detectives follow animated guide Foxy through a captivating journey of discovery.
“This dynamic, interactive exploration is designed to engage young learners and adults alike,” said Lindsay Genshaft, Sr. Manager of Family and Community Programs. “We’ve been testing this experience for about a year, and the feedback we’ve received from our visitors has been extremely valuable. We truly hope this program will provide families a fun opportunity to learn and explore together!”
ARtventure is designed to encourage collaboration and prompt communication, inviting young visitors to become “Junior Investigators,” and follow clues about a rumor floating around the museum: Did Roxanne Swentzell leave objects inside of Mud Woman Rolls On? “Junior Investigators” can solve the rumor by sharing stories, playing video games, and exploring the Indigenous Arts of North America galleries, learning how and why Mud Woman was created along the way. A complete Spanish-language version will be released later in 2024.
ARtventure Kits are supported by the Tuchman Family Foundation, PNC Foundation, and the residents who support the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).
