Renaissance Adventures: Best outdoor camps that are fun and COVID-safe
posted by: Mile High Mamas
When thinking about summer camps this year, most of us parents want our kids to be outdoors and safe from the covid-19 virus… and of course have tons of fun! The best camps are those that offer a fun experience that kids love, provide enriching programming that develops kids’ 21st-century skills, and take rigorous steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their families. Renaissance Adventures offers a unique camp experience with what they call “experiential education through live-action role-playing games.” Parents – including those in the health industry – have given testimonial after testimonial about how well Renaissance Adventures has handled the balance between safety and fun.
Since 1995, Renaissance Adventures has led summer quests where the kids become the heroes of a dynamic and exciting adventure. Each week is a different quest with its own plot, theme, and challenges. Each group is led by an adult who is trained and skilled at leading adventures, acting, storytelling, and leadership. In small groups of about six similarly aged children, everyone gets a chance to shine and be the hero of a mythic quest.
Renaissance Adventures offers several wonderful programs:
Adventure Quest (In-Person and Online)
Wielding safe foam Swasher swords, the children play dueling games and act out challenges like fending off a bullying ogre or a thieving band of pirates, in an environment that teaches good sportsmanship, fair-play, and respect for others. Then they exercise their minds as they try to piece together the clues in a coded riddle and follow a map to buried treasure. Questers end the program feeling empowered, excited, and full of stories to tell.
Star Quest (In-Person)
Star Quest is a science fiction live-action roleplaying game similar in many ways to Adventure Quest… the Questers band together in small groups of like age to discover strange new worlds, overcome dynamic challenges, negotiate intergalactic treaties, and battle using blasters (beanbags) and starsabers (foam swords). Join us for exciting and mind-bending programs that are a short way off, in a galaxy really, really close.
Quest & Quill (In-Person)
Adventure Quest + Creative Writing! Questers write about the stories unfolding in their quests, their heroic character, or any topic that inspires them. In the tradition of the Norse Skalds, we focus on the enjoyment of writing, self-expression, and the oratory art of reading aloud. We do not focus on grammar, spelling, or writing style.
Knight CIT (In-Person)
CIT Leadership for Teens. The Knight CIT offering at Renaissance Adventures is a unique leadership program where the teens mentor younger campers and assist our adult campers. Knights join an Adventure Quest group, who are playing the heroes of a mythic quest. Knight CITs assist the Quest Leader to help with activities, challenges, storytelling, plot dynamics, characters, safety, and leadership.
Dungeon Delvers (Online)
Join RA’s expert game masters and story crafters lead participants in an online Tabletop RPG program that utilizes the Dungeons & Dragons® tabletop game system! Explore and create an adventure in a fantasy world of one of the most popular tabletop roleplaying games!
Renaissance Adventures can’t wait to see you this summer!
