Hello! My name is Maggie Wright, and I am the camp director for the “Summer at Ricks” program. I have worked in the summer camp world for about 15 years, and my camp nickname is Gonzo. I hope your family will join us for a summer of fun.
Ricks Center is located in the heart of the University of Denver’s campus. Campers enjoy the Olympic-sized swimming pool at the Ritchie Center, the peaceful Koi ponds, and more while on campus. This summer marks the fifth year since our camp first opened, and this year is going to be better than ever!
Summer at Ricks embraces Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (S.T.E.A.M.). This year’s themes include no-cook cooking, art in motion, things that fly, ice cream shop, and epic disasters. Our preschool through kindergarten camps explore their themes through play and hands-on experiments. Project-based learning poses questions for our 1st through 6th-grade campers to explore and test ideas. One camper exclaimed, “This is the best camp EVER because we made s’mores in a solar oven.”
We employ current Ricks Center teachers, undergraduate education majors from across Denver, and graduate students from the University of Denver. Our camp counselors have a passion for teaching and enjoy being with children. The counselors have designed astronaut training school, crime scene to investigate, a wild-west cattle ranch, and much more. One family stated, “The staff at the summer camps are amazing, from existing Ricks teachers to graduate students at D.U. to instructors from specific programs with tons of expertise.”
“The ‘Summer at Ricks’ program has provided our family a reliable and safe place for our daughter to spend her summer vacation. The staff at Ricks work incredibly hard to plan and implement a camp that combines education, friendship, and fun into each carefully planned out and themed week.” -TJ, Jessica & Amelie.
“Our family loves the Summer at Ricks program. As a parent, I know that my child is in an environment where she is surrounded by experienced child care experts who genuinely care about her and her well-being. My daughter enjoys all the creative play! She is excited to go every day and ends the day happy and exhausted from fun — exactly the kind of summer I imagine for her — especially these days.” Robin and Iniko.
