Deals: Leap Year, Travel and Adventure Show and More

Did you know that February is American Heart Month (not just because of Valentine’s)? The month is meant to raise awareness about heart health and prevent heart disease. There are a lot of ways you can become involved and help other women fight the #1 killer. Sign up for HeartFest in June, plan to support the Heart Ball in early March, following along on Facebook to see what you can do all year long, or just take your female friends on a walk instead of a coffee (walking is a heart-healthy exercise).

Dairy Block Petite Parade. Saturday, Feb 22nd from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dairy Block will celebrate Mardi Gras with a mini-parade. Create a float for the parade starting with a shoebox. Floats must be lo larger than two feet, by two feet by three feet and must be able to be pulled on wheels. There is a $50 fee for entry of a float – but the parade is FREE to watch.

Hallmark Free Card Friday. I love getting mail – it’s even better when it is a magazine or card. I love sending cards to my son too! He (apparently) loves them. Free Card Fridays are back. Visit your Gold Crown Hallmark store every Friday through June 26 to get one free card from the Just Because card collection. This is a Crown Rewards member exclusive [membership is free]. In-store only.

Chipotle Mexican Grill. Suit up with a hockey jersey on Friday, February 21 to score a buy one get one free entrée or kids meal (in-restaurant dining only) at Chipotle. USA Hockey and Chipotle celebrate the 13th year of Hockey Week Across America, which coincides with the 40th anniversary of the “Miracle on Ice.” The moment when the United States hockey team defeated the Soviet Union in 1980 is still one of the most iconic sporting events in U.S. history.

Stitch Fix. I recently ordered Stitch Fix. It is an online personal styling service. They match you to a stylist who sends you personalized outfits. Best of all, they aren’t a subscription service—you can because you can order a box on demand or set up automatic deliveries. It’s completely up to you. I also love the fact that I can let them know that I have a very limited budget and they find pieces that fit in that budget! I tried it the first time when my cousin gave me a code (which goes toward your styling fee and then to anything you keep). I’m giving you a code to try it too!

Best Buy Outlet. Did you know that Denver is one of the few cities that has a Best Buy Outlet? You can grab tons of deals at the outlet – these are items that have refurbished, open box or have been returned for some reason.

DGMG Jewelry, Gem & Mineral ShowKids will learn and have fun with activities like crystal digging, Mineral Magic Show, Mineral identification activities, Bat Cave (with rocks that glow in the dark), demonstrations, wire wrapping, geode cracking, and awesome displays of minerals from across the state and around the world.  Jumpstart your collection with 10 minerals plus a chance to win special prizes – in the $1 Grab Bag.  Free parking and Free admission at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Golden Colorado, February 28 – March 1, 2020

Free Magazines. I may have mentioned this before. I am a total magazine junkie. I love getting magazines in the mail. I have since I was a kid (maybe I should have worked at the Postal Service for as much as I love getting mail). But I rarely ever PAY for them. I do a quick survey and get points. You can do it too! RewardSurvey.com.

HollisterHollister is having an awesome sale! Buy 2, Get 1 FREE on all clearance items;  New Club Cali members (free to join) get a coupon for $10 off a $40 purchase; Club Cali members get an additional 20% off all purchases. Even better – you can pair all these deals together!

The Colorado Environmental Film Festival (CEFF) is a celebration of the inspirational, educational, and motivational power of film to engage people to protect their environment. It will be held Feb. 20-23, 2020 at the American Mountaineering Center (AMC) in Golden, Colo. CEFF for Kids features 13 short films specially programmed for schools and children (under 18) on Friday morning, including Zero, a film where local students followed their classmate through ups and downs for four days as she was challenged to live a zero-waste lifestyle. More info:  www.ceff.net. For tickets, please go to: https://ceff.net/tickets

Free Days. There are several free days all year long. Make sure you bookmark our round-up page. Here is what is happening this week: Thursday, February 20 – Denver Botanic Gardens Plains Conservation Center and Sunday, February 23 – Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Expos. My kids have been dragged along to several different expos over time. Most of the time they didn’t really feel like this was great fun for them (but it was fun for me and the kids are usually really discounted or free). There are two expos this weekend (Feb 22-23):

  • Travel and Adventure Show comes to the Colorado Convention Center (I loved this because I got to meet one of my idols, Samantha Brown) they have top-notch speakers again this year with Rick Steves, Josh Gates, and Cheryl Strayed. You can experience cultures from around the world and visit face-to-face with destination experts to help you plan your vacation. Plus, if you don’t have your passport yet – this is the place to get it! Admission is $11.
  • Colorado Garden and Home Show. When I’m stuck in my house, thanks to snow, I think of all the house projects I want to do – and my Pinterest boards fill up. But there is another way (besides wandering the aisles at Home Depot and Lowe’s) the Colorado Garden and Home show marches into town February 22-March 1. Tickets are on sale now. Kids 12 and under are free. Regular adult admission is $12 ($10 for seniors). Here’s some ticket deals: receive $2 off your ticket when you bring a non-perishable food item or go Monday, February 24 – Thursday, February 27 (admission is two for one).

Hyatt Place on Pena Staycation to Celebrate Leap Day Birthday. Celebrate your Leap Day birthday with a free night stay at Hyatt Place Pena Station. If you were born on February 29, enjoy complimentary overnight accommodations at Hyatt Place Pena Station on your birthday. Call the hotel directly at 720.405.4321 to book. Mention this special offer. Promotion cannot be combined with additional offers. Must be 21+ to book and present a photo ID and valid credit card at the time of arrival.

Nordstrom Rack. Nordstrom Rack Clear the Rack sale is happening now. I love getting a great deal especially if it is on something that was originally a LOT of money! Sale items are an additional 25% off. I got my daughter a pair of booties for just $15!
