It’s Stock Show Time. I love living in Denver. We are a little bit city (we have amazing city life, great foodie restaurants, a top-notch theater scene, etc) but we also embrace our country roots – and nothing is quite as spectacular as the prize bull in the lobby of one of our fanciest hotels, the Brown Palace. Or the rodeo where we collectively cheer on a bull rider’s bravery of hopping on top of a bucking live animal. Indeed, Denver comes alive with the spirit not quite like any other city during the next 16 days and be sure to check out our guide to the National Western Stock Show

National Western Stock Show. The National Western Stock show kicks off with a FREE parade (cattle drive) through downtown Denver on Thursday, January 9. Then you can get up close with the animals and be entertained with the rodeo January 11-26. There are several ticket deals you can score discounted tickets from Groupon or Travelzoo to free grounds day (sponsored by Arrow Electronics) on January 14. Plus, no matter what grounds admission is free with the purchase of a rodeo ticket. It is a full day’s entertainment at the price of a movie.

International Sportsmen’s Expo. January 9-12 the International Sportsmen’s Expo will take place at the Colorado Convention Center.  Featured this year are the Campfire Theater (an intimate 30-seat presentation space) with well known and recognized speakers. Kids will get to take photos with Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) mascot, Wilder – part mountain goat, part yeti, mostly friend. Admission is $16 for adults. Free for kids 15 and under.

Subway. Subway is helping you get New Years started off right by offering Oven Roasted Chicken or Veggie six-inch subs for just $2.99 (for a limited time).

Krispy Kreme. Get a free donut every Monday in January from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Olive Garden. Lunching with friends is even better when you get Unlimited Soup, Salad & Breadsticks for just $5.99 at Olive Garden with this digital coupon (after you put in your phone number).

Home Depot Kids Workshop. I want to be a kid again! At Home Depot’s Free workshop February 1, Kids will make a free Heart String Art.

Macy’s Sale. While most stores have some great after-Christmas savings. Macy’s has been a recent love for me. Right now, you can get a hooded quilted girl’s jacket with faux-fur trim for just $6.60! Use promo code FLASH at checkout. (There are several jackets for sale, this is just my favorite).

Veldkamp’s Happy Hour. Veldkamp’s in Lakewood has Happy Hour every Monday through Friday from 12 noon to closing and all day on Saturday and Sunday. What is Happy Hour at a Veldkamp’s? Get loose stems at the special rate of buy one get one free.

Ski for Free. 5th Graders can ski for free and 6th Graders ski for really cheap with the Passport from Colorado Ski Country. The passport allows Fifth-graders to try (and fall in love) with the sport. You get three times of skiing at the member resorts, a first timer’s lesson and rentals on the day of that lesson. As a Sixth Grader you get four times (and the lesson and rental if you didn’t take a first-timer one already). The deadline to apply is coming up on January 31!
