Contest: Putt-Putt-Hooray! Urban Putt Denver is Now Open
posted by: Gretchen White
Imagine being 100 feet tall, in possession of a golf club and ball, and putting your way through Denver’s most iconic landmarks. That’s what it feels like to play 18 holes of mini golf at Urban Putt, downtown Denver’s newest family fun destination.
Urban Putt Denver is housed in the former Old Spaghetti Factory building. Owner and “Chief Greenskeeper” Steve Fox isn’t a newbie when it comes to mini golf love. He and his wife built mini golf courses for their friends in their San Francisco home, eventually channeling the love of the game and the camaraderie it inspires into the first Urban Putt location in San Francisco.
The historic, cavernous 1889 built space provides ample room and a storied vibe to a lovingly creative mini golf adventure. You and your kids will be challenged in a variety of hole types, from traditional windmill obstacles to virtual arcade style high tech. You’ll work your way around a course which includes the Colorado state capitol building, Coors Field, a mashup of Lakeside and Elitch’s amusment parks, a mountain mine, DIA (including its guardian, Blucifer), Red Rocks, and the Urban Putt building itself. Sprinkled between the Colorado-centric holes are odes to aliens and even deep sea friends.
Our favorite holes were a tie between the beautifully detailed mountain mine and the ode to Red Rocks, where your ball travels through a Rube Goldberg-esque track that causes your ball to play real musical instruments. It’s truly clever.
We also adored the inventive repurposed gumball machines, now colorful golf ball dispensers. Around every bend in the course, and even the hallway to the bathrooms, brainy and whimsical touches pop up and keep you smiling. At the end of each nine-hole course is a fortune telling machine. If you get a hole in one, an amusing fortune will pop out as a little keepsake.
Urban Putt is divided into two nine-hole courses. Play one course for $11 or both for $19. A full kitchen and bar stands by ready to fuel your dreams of golf greatness. You can sit in the preserved trolley that boasts a great view of the colorful, trippy course. And if you are in need of a cheeky, stand-out party space, you can book Urban Putt for a memorable event.
With fall and winter fast approaching, it is great to have an option for indoorsy activities. One of the best things about mini golf is how it brings a group together. Round up your group and head to Urban Putt Denver. It opens on Friday, September 13, 2019. Check urbanputt.com for more information on hours and pricing.
