posted by:

Come enjoy a Family Funday on Saturday, August 18th from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Local 46 and help us celebrate the 2018 launch of the WeeCycle Diaper Bank. We will have live music by Castle Byers, face painters, character guests, balloon twisters and more. Your ticket purchase will include all entertainment, free give-a-ways and will help us wipe out diaper need. Food and beverage is available for purchase.

What is diaper need? Diaper Need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep a baby or toddler clean, dry and healthy.

The data surrounding diaper need is staggering. The effect diaper need has on families is paralyzing.

  • 1 in 3 American families experience diaper need
  • WIC and Food Stamps do NOT cover the cost of diapers
  • Most daycare facilities, even subsidized ones, require a one-day to a one-week supply of diapers for children to attend

Imagine, you are a single mom, barley scraping by and can not spare any money for diapers. You must pay rent to avoid homelessness. WIC and Food Stamps cannot help you PLUS your baby’s child care requires a supply of disposable diapers for them to attend. You miss work due to diaper shortage for child care. Missing work creates a further gap in your income. In addition, at home, you limit your baby to 2 diapers per-day causing diaper rash and maternal mental strife. Sometimes, wrapping your baby in a plastic bag  stuffed with toilet paper is the only option.

Lindsey Zaback, WeeCycle Diaper Bank- Program Coordinator has heard these stories and witnessed the effect of diaper need, first-hand. Since the January, 2018 launch of the WeeCycle Diaper Bank Program we have distributed over 92,000 diapers to low-income families. Come celebrate our efforts and help us wipe out diaper need. Cost: $15 Individual; $25 Family; Kids are free.
