Get outdoors and celebrate Colorado! Colorado Parks and Wildlife and its partners are celebrating Colorado Public Lands Day on Saturday, May 19, 2018. The holiday was established to honor the significant contributions that national, state and local public lands within Colorado make to wildlife, outdoor recreation, the economy and to Coloradans’ way of life.
Free events, stewardship projects and outdoor adventures are being offered across the state to highlight the importance of our public lands.
CPW is proud to participate in this annual event and has planned a variety of programs and special events at many of our state parks. Other Colorado Public Lands Day events are planned on various public lands around the state. Here are just a few of the events being offered:
Roxborough State Park: Volunteer at the Garden on Colorado Public Lands Day

Join us for Public Lands Day. Help us beautify Roxborough’s native garden on the patio in front of the Visitor Center. We will pull weeds and hand turn the dirt so that there is room for native plantings. Bring a plant from the list below and you can plant it yourself! Help us make Roxorough beautiful while celebrating your Public Lands Day! The entrance fee is waived for volunteers. No pets allowed in the park.
Lory State Park: Mullein control to celebrate Public Lands Day!

Barr Lake State Park: Clean up and tree planting on Colorado Public Lands Day

Bring your family, friends and coworkers for a day of outdoor fun, stewardship and community at Willow Bay. Activities include clean up and tree planting, free lunch and other fun goings-on.

Colorado Public Lands Day Hike at Chatfield State Park

Join us for Colorado Public Lands Day at Chafield State Park! Join Chatfield Park Ranger Beth for a morning hike as we celebrate this state holiday specifically dedicated to our public lands.Come appreciate all that these treasured lands have to offer, make some new friends and learn about what makes Chatfield so special! Date: Saturday May 19, 2016 Time: Hike begins at 9am Where: Gravel Ponds Be sure to wear weather appropriate clothing as well as closed-toe shoes. Bring water, sunscreen and cameras.
World Migratory Bird Day Event

For Colorado Public Lands Day, St. Vrain will be hosting the World Migratory Bird Day Event at Blue Heron Reservoir. Prize give-aways, demos, and hands-on activities are sponsored by several local birding and natural resource agencies. Admission is free, but all vehicles entering must have a valid parks pass.
Eldorado Canyon State Park: Eldo Bark Ranger Program on Colorado Public Lands Day

On Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the back patio of the Visitor Center, we will initiate dogs and their owners into our Bark Ranger program. An “Eldo Bark Ranger” dog tag along with a pledge card will be given to participants who agree to take “The Pledge.” Its primary purpose is to keep your dog safe,on a leash, and to ensure comfortable recreational experiences for visitors with or without dogs and to keep wildlife safe. A $5 minimum donation per dog is appreciated to support this program. An $8 vehicle fee or annual pass is required to enter the park.
