YMCA Day and Overnight Summer Camp: Something Amazing For Everyone
posted by: Guest Blogger
Kids come in all shapes and sizes. They have different interests, abilities and talents. They come from families with different financial situations, lifestyles and zip codes.
That’s why, at the YMCA of Boulder Valley, we meet kids where they are. Our summer camps cover the giggle-inspiring gamut: from the traditional YMCA Camp S’more Fun to the nature-based YMCA Camp Elks, from day to overnight camps, from sports to cycling to STEAM camps. Y camps are strategically located all over the community, from Longmont to Superior, from Broomfield Heights Elementary to Bailey, CO, where YMCA Camp Santa Maria sits in the heart of the Rockies. All of these locations ensure our families are never too far from a YMCA summer camp.
We welcome kids entering kindergarten through 6th grade. Oh, and we also keep your middle schoolers off the couch during the break. Our Teen Camps offer leadership opportunities as well as fun and field trips.
“We make sure all parents can rely on the Y for care and all kids can enjoy a summer camp experience with the Y,” says Becca Mack, YMCA of Boulder Valley Executive Director of Camping. “That means offering something for everyone. That means having camps all over the area. And that means ensuring camp positively impacts children socially, intellectually and emotionally.”
At the Y, there are endless possibilities for fun, adventure, activity and connection as well as countless opportunities to grow and learn, nurture resilience and find role models who empower. YMCA overnight and day camps foster kids’ curiosity and encourage them to expand their idea of what’s possible. YMCA summer camps allow kids to explore nature, swim and play, try new activities, develop new interests and gain independence while making friendships that last a lifetime.
And we want believe those opportunities should be available to all children — no matter their parents’ ability to pay. In 2017, 500 children attended YMCA of Boulder Valley summer camps on financial assistance. Not only did we give those 500 kids an incredibly fun experience, we gave them engagement and enrichment to help them prevent summer learning loss.
