The solar eclipse on August 21 is a big deal. Perhaps you have heard that this crossing of the moon directly in front of the sun will be making its path mid-day (around 11:30 a.m. MT). The last time this has been seen across the entire United States was 1918. You should only look at the eclipse with certified sun glasses (you can get free ones at Grease Monkey thanks to Channel 9).
 
Solar Viewing Party at Castle Rock.  Outlets at Castle Rock are inviting residents of Colorado to a ‘Solar Savings’ party on Monday, August 21 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. to view the highly anticipated, nationwide solar eclipse! Attendees of this FREE, family-friendly event will be able witness the eclipse that will be seen across the entire United States, and also have the opportunity to win gift cards and goodies during each minute of the maximum point of the eclipse. In total, Outlets at Castle Rock will be giving away over $500 in grand prize giveaways. Following the ‘Solar Savings’ party, attendees are welcome to stick around to view the remainder of the eclipse and continue shopping to take advantage of Outlets at Castle Rock’s ongoing Back-To-School deals. Currently, shoppers are able to save an additional 20% off at participating stores on top of Outlets at Castle Rock’s daily savings of 30-70% off retail prices through Aug. 31.Outlets at Castle Rock will also provide complimentary CE Certified solar glasses for safe viewing of the solar eclipse. 
 
Family-friendly Race Discount. Getaway 5K-10K is a new race series being held on Sunday, Sept. 10 at Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora.  It includes a Kids Fun Run, 1 Mile Family Walk, 5K and 10K as well as a Finish Line Party, Kids Zone and Festival. It’s all about family fun with a beachy theme! Mile High Mamas has an exclusive discount code for you: SunFunRun3C.  The code provides 15% off race fees. Free Ride. Step into the future (or rather, ride into it) on Wednesday, August 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Regional Transportation District (RTD) and longtime operating partner Transdev invite the public to explore the future of public transit by stepping aboard a driverless shuttle, a mobility option being demonstrated this week at the Pepsi Center. The driverless vehicle, an EZ10 shuttle manufactured by French company EasyMile, is completely electric and can accommodate a dozen people at a time, six seated and six standing. It has no steering wheel and no dedicated front or back, and it cruises at about 12 mph. The demonstration will take place in the Prius North parking lot at the event venue, located at 1000 Chopper Circle.                                
Free Diabetes Screenings. Just about One in 100 children in Colorado has Childhood Diabetes (or T1D) and Celiac disease, the two most common autoimmune diseases of childhood. ASK (Autoimmunity Screening for Kids) program is offering Denver-area kids, aged 2-17 (with parent/guardian consent) free screenings to detect the diseases. There are 3 (regular) locations to get screened, and you don’t need to schedule an appointment in advance. Walk-ins are welcome. If parents want, they can call 303-724-1275 to speak with someone about the screening in advance.
 
History Colorado Center. Free Kid Saturdays. General Admission to the History Colorado Center is FREE for kids 18 and under EVERYSATURDAY during the month of August 2017! Plus, other History Colorado Community Museums statewide will be FREE for kids 18 and under every day from Memorial Day – Labor Day.  Kids Free Saturdays at the History Colorado Center are made possible through the generous support of Joan Prusse and Bob Musgraves. 
 
Parade of Homes.  My Grammy used to call them “Wowee Houses” as we would drive what we thought were mansions. But now, we get to actually go in these homes -FOR FREE. Yup. I said free. The Parade of Homes, the hallmark event hosted by the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver (HBA), returns this summer for its 32nd year. Your home showcase summer tradition, the Parade of Homes is your go-to local home show and design houses tour. Go where and when you want and discover two master plan communities; 66 newly designed model and custom homes by 20 area residential builders, including eight luxury “Dream Homes;” located in neighborhoods throughout the greater Denver metropolitan area. This free event is a wonderful opportunity for potential home buyers and anyone interested in home remodeling and design to get new ideas and inspiration. It all starts on August 10.

MindCraft Makerspace Learning LabMindcraft Learning Lab introduces their afterschool program for kids 1st through 8th grade. Every after school session begins with 1:1 conversation with the student – prioritizing assignments and setting goals for their time at the Lab. The facilitator will provide guidance and check for quality and accuracy for all completed assignments. When all goals are met, students engage in educational games that support math literacy and reading and then the fun begins.  If time allows, your kids will be allowed to explore tinkering, gaming, coding and keyboarding in a self-directed and exploratory manner. Daily sessions run from 3:00 to 5:30 pm MondayFriday with a 10% sibling discounts available.
