December is the star on top of the year’s tree. No matter how your family celebrates this holiday-packed season, make sure to include one of the Denver Botanic Garden’s wintery fairylands.
Blossoms of Light at the Denver York Street location features acres of magical lighting displays, including a new interactive element where you get to control the color, brightness, and speed of a field of lights. Sing! Ring bells! Channel Santa’s “Ho Ho Ho!” and see what happens. When technology holds its mittened hand with good old-fashioned lighting know-how, magic is created. All ages can become a part of the show.
Other sweetly-thought elements of the Blossoms of Light include a chance to peek in on a family of cozy Teddy Bears arranged in the historic green house. Giant colorful illuminated globes dot the beautiful Monet Pool. Snowflakes perch in the Science Pyramid pool and, according to my kids, and there is a disco tunnel you can’t miss. It will warm you on the coldest of nights. But if you are truly in need of some warm-up and refreshments, head inside for cocoa and hot cinnamon rolls or other seasonal treats.
If an urban experience isn’t your cup of cocoa, head to the Chatfield Farms location. Trail of Lights provides a more rustic experience while still illuminating these dark nights. On select nights, take a hayride, do a craft, or even visit Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. This year, the trail is longer and there is a new magical enchanted forest guaranteed to make you forget malls and the to-do list.
