Winning Wednesday: GameWorks Huge Entertainment and Dining Center

Winning Wednesday: GameWorks Huge Entertainment and Dining Center

There’s a new player in town and it’s the ultimate 36,000-square-foot playground that will keep kids and kids at heart entertained and fed! GameWorks recently opened its doors in the Shops at Northfield Stapleton and is chock full of video and arcade games, big screen TVs, a two-story G-Force laser tag arena, a full-service restaurant and bar and Denver’s newest eSports LAN gaming zone.

GameWorks is the first entertainment and dining center in Colorado for the national chain and becoming Denver’s newest eSports LAN gaming center. Geared for kids as young as five, GameWorks offers a broad mix of classic and modern gaming experiences and is continuously adding new games, hosting eSports tournaments and offering enough laser tag phasers to build a small army. They even have fun girl’s nights out like Canvas, Cocktails and Gaming and birthday bashes for as little as $18/guest.

I took my 9-year-old son and his two buddies to check it out and they were on Cloud 9. As we neared the end of the tour, the manager asked if we had any questions and my only concern was “how do I drag my kids out of here?”

By the numbers, here’s how you’ll have fun at GameWorks, which is the perfect air-conditioned reprieve for hot Denver summers:

lasertagLaser Tag. Fashioned after the ever-popular League of Legends battle arena, G-Force at GameWorks is the largest, split-level laser tag arena in the Front Range. Stocked with 24 phasers, the 5,500 square-foot arena offers teams more than 25 different game options packed into 15-minute battle sessions. We had loads of fun but be sure to listen carefully to the instructions at the beginning because there are new strategies for earning extra points. Bad: This a nice way of saying we didn’t understand so were losers on the scoreboard.  Good: What I lacked in ability, I made up for in enthusiasm.  $8/guest per game.

Arcade Games. With more than 160 games and 210 player stations, the boys went crazy over this gaming destination that is a mix of video games, pinball machines, electro-mechanical games, redemption games, merchandisers and air hockey tables. I took on the challenge of tackling their Top 10 Most Popular Arcade Games: *Big Bass Wheel * Big One Crane * Black Hole *Crossy Roads *Dark Escape 4D * Down the Clown *Gold Fishing *Grand Piano Keys *Jurassic Park *Kung Fu Panda.  My favorite? Down the Clown, which is a great way to let out your pent-up clown aggressions. Cost: $5=30 credits; $10=72 credits; $15=102 credits; $20=146 credits; $25=200 credits. gameworks1

eSports Zone. Home to Denver’s newest eSports LAN gaming zone, GameWorks gives “gaming athletes” a new destination to flex their competitive gaming skills with tournaments, 25 LAN PC Stations, 22 Xbox One Consoles and 6 Wii U Consoles.  The cost is just $5/hour!
