Deaf mother of two Sarah had received her first hearing device just eight days before she sat down to talk to Ellen. Born with DNA that caused her hairs in the middle ears to keep from forming, Sarah was thrilled to finally be able to hear everything from her children’s voices to birds to her husband’s snoring (OK, she was less thrilled about that).
The procedure that allows Sarah to hear costs $30,000 per ear, and her generous mother-in-law Lari cashed in her retirement savings to pay for Sarah’s hearing device in one ear.
Ellen was so touched by Lari’s selfless act of kindness that she decided to invite the entire family on her show and as always, she has an incredible surprise for them all.
