Foodie Friday: Sugar and Spice Cookies

Foodie Friday: Sugar and Spice Cookies

It happened on our drive home from church.

Me: “We’re going to decorate for Christmas and make gingerbread men today!”

Daughter: “I don’t like gingerbread.”

And then my whole existence was rocked. Is is even possible to hate gingerbread men, the very staple of Christmas joy?

In mourning, I made these Sugar and Spice Cookies, which are similar to gingerbread but without the ginger and with all those holiday spices we’ve grown to love like cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. I’ve been making this recipe for as long as I can remember and I love them when I use small star-shaped cookie cutters and cook them until the edges are lightly browned. Trust me on this one. Crispy is best.

My daughter practically inhaled these cookies and the batch was gone within minutes. These Sugar and Spice Cookies are certainly everything nice.
