I know, I know. It isn’t even Thanksgiving yet, and I’m already talking about Christmas. The horrors and injustices know no bounds. It is a long-standing family tradition, however, to attend the arrival of Santa at Flatiron Crossing Mall prior to Thanksgiving. Why, you might ask? Because Flatirons welcomes Santa like nobody’s business, and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Even when my children have outgrown Santa (I think I still have another 3-4 years before that happens), I will STILL be dragging them to the annual Breakfast with Santa. With freebies like cookies, hot cocoa, and little toy giveaways, as well as face-paint, Radio Disney, crafts, and a full breakfast for everybody who attends (yes, even breakfast is free!)—what’s not to love?
It’s hard not to get into the spirit of the holiday season (even pre-Thanksgiving) when Flatirons has rolled out the red carpet to welcome the big guy himself. And Santa comes in style—riding shotgun in one of Broomfield F.D.’s biggest and brightest fire trucks while “Here Comes Santa Claus” plays to greet the jolly old elf.
Santa takes his time walking the red carpet with Jack Frost and the Christmas Egg (seriously—there’s a giant egg mascot wearing a Santa hat) to make sure he personally greets each child along the way, and then it’s onward to his home for the rest of the Christmas season—the HDTV Santa HQ.
Holiday Fun
Throughout the rest of the Holiday Season, families can visit HGTV’s Santa HQ to interact with different gadgets in Santa’s observatory. They can check out Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole and see how his entire operation works. They also get the chance to see if they’ve made the nice list with the naughty or nice meter, which gives them an actual measurement of just how good they’ve been this year while they watch their names light up on Santa’s list.
They can use their own “Elf-Ray Vision,” which allows the kids to point a provided tablet at different elf-triggers in the observatory to get a secret look at the work of some of Santa’s busiest elves. The whole interactive experience is perfect for kids of all ages, and a visit to Santa’s Headquarters is absolutely free (unless you decide to purchase photos).
Finally, kids get to have photos taken in two locations, including one with Santa. Photo packages are available for purchase, as well as frames, keychains, and other gifts. Photo packages range in price, but generally start at $11.99 for a single 5×7 glossy print. To reserve a spot to avoid the wait, you can pre-schedule at MySantaExperience.com.
Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m on Sundays through December 11, and 9 am-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sundays beginning December 12 through December 24, 2015.
