He’s useful. He’s cheeky. He’s friendly. He’s big and blue. He’s in Colorado. If you guess the big blue bear at the convention center, you’re wrong. If you’re thinking of the creepy blue horse at DIA, you’re really, really wrong.
Everyone’s favorite little engine from the Island of Sodor has returned to the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden to entertain fans of all ages. A Day Out with Thomas is wildly popular because it’s more than just a train ride. Families can spend hours enjoying the many Thomas and Friends related activities in a festive atmosphere. Kids can pose with Sir Topham Hatt and Thomas for memorable photos. There are several activity tents and live entertainment, including a sing-a-long and magic show. If the day is hot, make sure you cool down inside the main building. There are tables set up with Thomas-related crafts and coloring sheets.
But by far the biggest draw at Day Out with Thomas is getting to ride a train pulled by Thomas himself. The ride makes three loops around the grounds as it pulls multiple passenger cars. Dramatic plumes of billowing smoke, the bells, the whistles, and authentic touches like a conductor punching tickets makes it truly a memorable experience. It’s a unique adventure kids will never forget.
Along with everything-Thomas, there is a small petting zoo. Local firefighters also have a truck on display with all the bells and whistles open to explore. Everywhere you turn, your family will find something fun to do.
Regular exhibits and attractions at the museum are also accessible. If you’ve never been, it’s truly a hands-on place. Must-sees are the model railroads and the interiors of old railcars. The museum has added a beautiful new covered picnic area. Food is available to purchase, so you could truly spend a day out with Thomas.
The event is stroller-friendly, although you’ll need to park yours to ride Thomas. Most people are directed to park in far-flung lots. Shuttles deliver Thomas fans to the museum grounds. There are larger busses that can accommodate strollers. The drivers are happy to assist, but keep in mind you’ll need to fold it.
