Denver Deal: Free Days, Melt, Green Dry Cleaning and More

I’m on the hunt for great deals with all the back-to-school stuff. Do you know of them? Are the deals really that amazing if you have to drive from one place to another to get those 10-cent notebooks and 20-cent box of pencils? Sometimes it is just easier to buy it in one place. I come by my deals quite naturally –my mom used to tell my sister and I that we could get an outfit or two before school started and were then promised another later. She said that is was because then we would really know what the popular colors/outfits/looks were for the year. This actually makes a ton of sense so that she could spread her spend out a bit but also so she wouldn’t buy something that we wouldn’t end up wearing. Do you have other tips for clothes shopping?

Gap Cash. Much like the Kohl’s cash promo Gap is offering Gap Cash through September 7. When you spend $50 you can earn $25 Gap Cash to return back to the store later in September.

FREE Days: Denver Botanic Gardens admission is free on Tuesday, August 4. Children’s Museum is also free from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4. On Friday, August 7 the Four Mile Historic Park is free and Dinosaur Ridge is free on Saturday, August 8.

Dry Cleaning Goes Green for $1.99. The new Aurora store $1.99 Any Garment is bringing a new concept to Colorado in the first of several planned locations. The company does not use harsh dry-cleaning chemicals, nor does it charge higher prices for garments based on size or complexity. Every garment, from a pair of slacks to a suit jacket or even a wedding gown costs the same $1.99 price per garment to clean. It’s a pricing model based on volume and is a welcome addition to the Denver-area market.

The Melt Grand Opening: The Melt introduces their cheesy awesomeness at their newest location at Park Meadows Dining Hall. While the location opens on Friday, August 14th, MileHighMamas readers can get free food on Aug. 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. using the password: Burger Lover.

National Oyster Day. Seriously, there must be an official “day” for everything – but this one is particularly great because our friends at Jax Fishhouse will have FREE oysters to celebrate on Wednesday, August 5. (There will be a limit to the first 100 orders in each of their four Colorado locations).

Cost Cutters. Cost Cutters has been advertising on radio stations around town for their $10 special (pre-pay for four haircuts at just $10 each). The cards can be used multiple times in one visit (meaning you can pay for the whole family).

Kids Corner at Bronco’s Training Camp. Kids can participate in interactive games, face painting and appearances from Miles (the mascot) when they go to Broncos’ Training Camp (which is free).

Play with Legos for fun and money. Scientist Dr. Hedman is working on helping parents better connect with kids  – through games, toys, and robots. Are you or your kids interested in co-creating future apps/robots/toys? Play with a new LEGO/game/robotic toy, and then brainstorm what it could be like. It’s really fun and exposes kids to design/science. With a large study about families building LEGO and a smaller project on robots at hand, he needs to find about 30-50 families in Colorado.Would you consider participating?  Complete the application here.

Free, healthy summer meals for Colorado kids and teens. Summer should be a fun and enriching time for all Colorado children, but for many it represents a time when they are at the greatest risk of hunger due to lost access to school meals. Thanks to a statewide collaboration to address child hunger, 533 community sites across Colorado will provide meals to children up to 18 years old at no cost this summer.  Colorado families can find nearby summer food sites by using an interactive map at KidsFoodFinder.org or calling the statewide, bilingual Hunger Free Hotline toll-free at (855) 855-4626.
