July is National Ice Cream Month, which means my husband will be in a state of euphoria because what could be better than having an excuse to spend your entire month eating ice cream? Not that he needs it. The man has a bowl of ice cream every night before bedtime, no matter what the season.
Mile High Mamas is thrilled to team up with Dreyer’s/Edy’s ice cream to turn scoops into smiles and we’re giving away coupons for free ice cream. We’re like the ice cream truck driver, only significantly less creepy and without that annoying jingle.
My family has long enjoyed Dreyer’s classic flavors like chocolate and vanilla and delicious combinations such as butter pecan, double fudge brownie and rocky road. But in an effort to make our indulgences healthier, we’ve turned to Slow Churned Light ice cream, which has all the flavor but half the fat and one-third fewer calories than regular ice cream.
Make Your Own Ice Cream Sundae Bar
My son was baptized last July and as part of the celebration, we invited our friends to our home afterward for an ice cream sundae bar. I wanted something quick, easy and delicious and this delivered on all accounts. We bought our favorite flavors of Dreyer’s ice cream and some cute chalkboard labels from Target that I can reuse (or Pinterest has a lot of free printable ice cream sundae bar labels). I went crazy with the toppings:
Fruit (strawberries, bananas, raspberries and blueberries)
Syrups (homemade chocolate, strawberry and caramel)
Candy (gummy worms and bears, Oreos, M&Ms, white, butterscotch and milk chocolate chips, marshmallows and peanut butter cups).
Cereal (Captain Crunch, Fruit Loops)
Maraschino cherries
Coconut
Sprinkles
Nuts (almonds, peanuts)
Whipped cream
My son was in his element. I stopped him as he was racing around with his friends to ask if he was having fun. “Yes, AND I NEED MORE SUGAR.” Chalk his baptism day up as being one of his best days ever.
Dreyer’s Ice Cream Dippers
If you want to do an ice cream party on a smaller scale, try Dreyer’s Ice Cream Dippers. Just roll large scoops of ice cream in your favorite toppings and center them on plates surrounded by an assortment of snacks for dipping – pretzels, waffle cones, cookies, etc! It’s a simple and delicious way to “treat” your guests.
Movie Night Sundaes
My neighbor Meredith throws regular movie nights in her backyard and has a big screen, state-of-the-art projector and lots of treats. This summer, I’m adding a new twist by making Movie Night Sundaes. Simply use Dreyer’s ice cream, along with a spread of classic movie snacks – chocolate candies, licorice, crushed caramel popcorn and let each child personalize their treat. It’ll be a show-stopper for sure.
