My daughter is the first of her friends to hit puberty. I’ve been at a loss how to help advise her on her skincare and want to stay away from harmful acne cleansers sold at the grocery store. So, I was thrilled to hear luxury beauty boutique AILLEA opened its doors at 1408 Larimer Street that sells exclusively toxin-free makeup, skincare and cosmetics.
We had a mini-makeover and tour of this beautiful store that is bursting with noteworthy green beauty products that were hand-picked by AILLEA founder, Kathryn Murray. “There are plenty of companies out there that claim their products don’t contain harmful chemicals but that isn’t true. So it became my mission to open Denver’s only true clean beauty retailer.”
A lifetime beauty junkie and former executive in the beauty industry in New York City, Murray’s head started to spin when she tried to “clean up” her beauty routine after contracting allergies. She started on the journey of replacing every product she used with one that works as well or better as the ones she had been using, but had no toxic chemicals. The amount of green washing (having one organic ingredient but lots of other chemicals and advertising as organic) and false advertising left her frustrated and incensed.
“Realizing that true transparency does not exist in the beauty industry, I set out to create a safe haven where people KNOW that EVERY product is safe – free of parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, endocrine disruptors or other toxic chemicals. No exceptions. I want to empower women to make healthy choices about their beauty products.”
After spending some time with Murray, I’ve never been more empowered and educated. I particularly fell in love with the Indie Lee Squalane Facial Oil, which gave my face a dewy, fresh look. My daughter’s skin has never looked better with the Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser and the Suki Purifying Acne Serum but she is moderately obsessed with the citrus scent of Pristine Beauty’s Take a Whiff natural deodorant. When she came home, she read the label on her current deodorant, a popular store brand, and mused, “Mom, did you know there is a disclaimer on here to ask a doctor before using to see if you have kidney disease?!” The whole experience was eye-opening for both of us.
AILLEA will offer exclusive and hard-to-find brands and products in a variety of price points including:
- Pure and True Skincare
- Lily Lolo Cosmetics
- DR J Organics Cleanser
- Suki Cleansing Lotion
The Larimer Square store is the first brick-and-mortar location in the country for the retailer and the only retail home for Kjaer-Weis organic cosmetics in the state of Colorado, providing a natural extension to the company’s well-established online presence.
