Product Pick: How Obermeyer’s “I-Grow” Winter Clothes Literally Grow with Your Kids
posted by: Amber Johnson
With winter weather upon us, outfitting our children is a non-stop process and by the end of last season, both my kids had outgrown all their cold-weather clothes.
But you won’t hear any complaints from me because I’ll let you in on a secret: Three years ago I purchased those Obermeyer ski clothes and they have lasted us that long.
If you’re not familiar with this Aspen-based ski wear company, Obermeyer has been designing and manufacturing waterproof breathable ski technology for women, men and kids for over 60 years. Their skiwear line for 2014/15 features a palette of crimson (bright red), limelight (yellow) , knockout pink and some vibrant shades of blue, reflects a vastly improved mood in the industry.
There are plenty of reputable clothing companies so why sing Obermeyer’s praises? Because their line of children’s ski clothes has a patented extended wear feature called “I-Grow,” which literally allows the clothes to grow with your kids. By simply snipping the colored threads, you can can lengthen the sleeves or their jackets or the cuffs of their snow pants by up to 2 inches.
There is a label sewn on the inside of these products that details how to do it (along with a helpful diagram):
* Turn coat inside out
* Snip the bright color thread
* Pants—2” longer
* Sleeve—1 ½” longer
Even a sewing-challenged mom like me can figure that out.
Obermeyers’ jackets, pants and one-piece snow suits also have fun designs as well as waterproof, breathable materials with cool features like a removable hood with a safety design guard and a NEW integrated glove clip system with a hidden velcro closure pocket that opens to a pull-out clip.
