Denver Deal: New Years Eve, History Colorado & Free Days

Noon Years Eve

Happy New Year’s!! I don’t know what you plan to do on New Year’s Day – but I will be at the stores. There are amazing deals to be had in those post-Christmas sales. I have seen emails from too many to mention. I know I will be asked to spend some time in the Disney Store (where they are having their 1/2 yearly sales at 40% discounts), H&M for my teen (where it seems like the whole store is on sale), and an email the other day said 93% discount at the Discovery Store. Really?!?!? 93%? I love it! See you at the mall!

History Colorado Center

Explore Colorado’s history in the exhibit, Living West at the History Colorado Center. Zebulon Pika takes kids through the activities and sharing fun, interesting facts about life in the West. From 11/23/13-2/28/14 kids ages 6-12 gain a free admittance when they participate in this at-home craft and wear it to the Museum (children ages 5 and under get in free with an adult). Plus, there are special activities scheduled over “fall break” including: Thurs., Dec. 26:  Native American Beading presentation, 12:30 p.m.; Fri., Dec. 27:  Koffi Togo West African Drumming, 12:30 p.m.; Sat. , Dec. 28:  Colorado Mestizo Dancers, 11:30 a.m.; Sun., Dec. 29:  Storytelling with Lisa Mumpton, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.; Mon., Dec. 30:  Youth Ballet dancers perform variations, 11:30 a.m.

New Year’s Plans

Children’s Museum of Denver celebrates Noon Year’s Eve with fun and games – plus you won’t have to wait until midnight – the ball will drop hourly from 10a-3p! If you are more of a mind to stay up a bit later – check out the fireworks display downtown (the family friendly one starts at 9 p.m.) Plus, RTD is offering FREE rides (bus and lightrail)! Plan to buy your pizza at Domino’s who is having discounts of 50% off with their large 3-topping pizza for just $7.99.

Thred Up

Do you shop like I do? I put things in my basket and then the longer I stay in the store I talk myself out of them (I think I can get a better deal elsewhere). I don’t have to do that at  Thred Up, the online  consignment shop. If I don’t act fast enough the stuff it gone when I return to the site. There are a ton of inexpensive items under $10 with designer labels! Plus, you get $10 to spend on the site – just for signing up for their emails!

Gem’s Card

Gems Card from Colorado Ski Country discount card is just $20 and has some of the best ski deals – like BOGO lift tickets and often there are super Flash Deals for additional discounts. This deal is good on resorts like Copper, Loveland, Monarch, Steamboat and more.

Free Movie: Nut Job

Get nutty with the family at a special advance screening of THE NUT JOB in 3D on Saturday, January 11th! Enter to win tickets to the screening by visiting www.gofobo.com and enter RSVP code: MAMASDU72. Winners will be notified on January 8th. (Each ticket admits 1, limit 4 tickets per person. Passes do not guarantee admission as theater is overbooked. ARRIVE EARLY!) In animated 3D, “The Nut Job” is an action-packed comedy that follows Surly (voiced by Will Arnett), a mischievous squirrel, who must plan a heist to get into his town’s biggest nut shop in order to help his pals in the park gather food to survive the winter. Together with his sidekick, Buddy, he will assemble a ragtag crew to help him get inside – and take them on a fun-filled adventure that they’ll never forget.

  1. It looks like there has been a little bit of a mix up. The Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys is not hosting a free day on January 6, which is a Monday. The Museum is not open on Mondays. We are having a community day on Sunday, January 5 from 1:00-4:00 when we will not be charging for admission but instead asking for a $1 donation per person. The Museum hosts a community day on the first Sunday of each month.
