Deals: Having Fun in Denver on a Cheap Budget

Creative budget

The Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Denver is now free for anyone age 18 and under, becoming the city’s first museum to offer children and teens free admission every day. The museum is open until 9 p.m. weekdays all summer. With five galleries and rotating exhibits by regional, national and international artists, you never know what you’ll find at MCA. Our suggestion: Give kids a chance to “recharge their batteries” experiencing the “Electrical Room” exhibit through Sept. 29. 1485 Delgany St., mcadenver.org

Say “cheese”

The Cheesecake Factory knocks 50 percent off any slice of cheesecake on Tuesday. This deal is limited to one slice per guest for dine-in only. There are locations in Boulder, Denver and Littleton. thecheesecake factory.com

Friday freebie

If you appreciate a good grocery store freebie, mark Fridays on your calendar. King Soopers now offers a free product coupon every week. It’s a bit of a mystery what the weekly item will be, but patience and organization pay. On Fridays, you have 24 hours to download the digital coupon for the free product to your King Soopers loyalty card. The coupon is available on Friday, but you have two weeks to get the freebie. Just pick up the product at your local King Soopers and the discount is automatically applied at checkout. So far, we’ve seen free chips, salsa, toothpaste, granola bars and shampoo. Golden nights

A summer night under the stars with loved ones is always golden. In August, the city of Golden hosts a free “Movies & Music In The Park” series at Parfet Park (10th Street and Washington Avenue), with music and a family-friendly movie each Friday night. Bands begin performing at 7 p.m., and the featured movie starts flickering at dusk. Here’s the lineup: Saturday: “Madagascar 3”; Aug. 9: “The Sandlot”; Aug. 16: “The Pirates!”; and Aug. 23: “We Bought A Zoo.” Bring a picnic dinner or enjoy food and drinks from local vendors. tinyurl.com/goldmovies
