Denver Deal: IKEA, Kind Mission, MLB Clinic & Yo Crunch

School begins next week for my kids.  With all the shopping for school supplies, backpacks and such, I was excited when EcoVessel asked me to use their water bottles.  I tried two different kinds.  The first was the kids stainless steel straw bottle.  I LOVE the fact that it comes with EXTRA straws and the bright fun colored pink paint is not chipping off.  Even the straw is withstanding all of her biting – bottles are usually destroyed in the straw area because of her chewing them.  And my daughter won’t let it go.  She thinks having her own bottle is the coolest thing since sliced bread.  I originally gave the bright yellow Stainless Steel Insulated water bottle to my son.  But, I liked it so much I snagged it for myself.  Right now, it is hard to think about putting coffee or hot chocolate in it – I use it for water and cold drinks but they tell me that it can also keep warm drinks warm.  Rarely do I get a compliment on a water bottle – but I have received plenty as I proudly bring it to my gym class (OK, so when I go to the gym…sometimes, I just take it with me to work).  Plus, the mouth-piece is not so big that I splash it all over my face when I am on a hike.  And seriously, what is not to love about this Colorado company?

IKEA Grand Opening

I can’t remember another time when a store opening created such a stir.  Who knew that there would be a traffic plan and great giveaways like a three-seat sofa (for the first 38), an armchair (for the next 100) and stuffed hearts for the kids.  Go online and get signed up for IKEA Family.  It allow you to leave the kids in the supervised play area a bit longer than the “general public” – and trust me you will need all the time you can get to shop the GIANT store!!!  Beyond that – when you join IKEA Family you also get great discounts with other partners in the community like Wildlife Experience.

Kind Global Mission

Do the KIND Thing initiative from KIND is helping people give back to those in need simply by being kind. Here’s how it works:   Each month, KIND challenges its community to carry out a specific act of kindness (KINDING Mission) on the first Tuesday of the month. This month’s KINDING Mission is to give a cold beverage to someone working outdoors (a construction worker, camp counselor, landscaper, lifeguard, or even your neighbor) any time between July 26th and KIND Tuesday, August 2nd!   If enough people sign up to complete that month’s KINDING Mission, KIND carries out a BIG KIND Act for a group of people that really needs it. This month, KIND will team up with Whole Foods Denver and Colorado Coalition for the Homeless to send hundreds of homeless children back to school with the backpacks and supplies they so desperately need.  Every KINDING Mission accepted at www.KINDsnacks.com/world/mission brings us one act of kindness closer to making this BIG KIND Act a reality.

MLB Alumni Clinic

Boys and Girls between 6 and 16 can learn from the baseball pros for FREE!!!!  Register for the free clinic Saturday, July 30 in Lakewood at the Coca-Cola All Star Park.  The Youth Kids Clinic presented by Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association!

Southglenn Hollywood Theater

The Hollywood Theater at the Streets of Southglenn continues it’s offering of half-priced movies each Tuesday.   ALL movies are half-price at that theater on Tuesday.  Even new movies!  (I still have not seen Harry Potter anyone want to meet me there?)

Yo Crunch Greek Yogurt

I’m a fan of greek yogurt.  It was getting my kids to like it that was my issue.  While I love the idea that it is better for me and has more protein, that didn’t move the kids to like it.  What did move the kids was when I introduced Yo Crunch!  They love sprinkling the crunchy granola on top.  I love that it all in one convenient pack and ready to go – especially on mornings when I am running out the door.  You can download a $1.00 off coupon from their website.

Kids Cooking School

Do you have a kiddo that is a culinary wonder?  I know that once the kids get involved in the preparation and cooking of foods they are more likely to try new things and actually eat their veggies!  With childhood obesity on the rise, it is important to teach our kids at a young age how important it is to eat healthy.  I recently discovered “Coolinary Cooking Camp.”  Kids will learn how to prepare, cook and share great and healthy foods at Sticky Fingers.  The camp is at Hill Middle School at 4th and Clermont.  Open to boys and girls aged 5 to 10.  Camp is open Monday, August 8 – Friday, August 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
