A Tree for your Tree

Looking for some fun, inexpensive, easy and quick holiday crafts to do with the kids? One they’ll love and you’ll all remember for years to come? How about an ornament to adorn your tree?

What You’re Making:

A Tree for your Tree.

What You’ll Need:

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Glue
  • Hot glue gun if you have one
  • Adornments to glue (options are endless)
  • Ribbon (wrapping ribbon is fine)
  • Green and brown paint (washable is great, with applicator)
  • or green and brown crayons, markers
  • Newspaper
  • Scissors

What To Do:

The process in which you’ll go through this depends largely upon the age and abilities of your children. You can do a lot of prep if you’d like, ensuring that they have a fun experience and aren’t overwhelmed, and you’re not frustrated. Steps you may want to do yourself are indicated with an (*).

*After laying out newspaper and warming the glue gun, determine the number of popsicle sticks you’ll need (t#2 12-06-09 Craft Projecthis will vary depending upon their width). Lay one stick vertically, to be your tree trunk. Cut the other sticks in the middle, removing varying amounts to reduce the overall length of each stick.

*Use the hot glue gun (or regular glue, the glue gun is just faster and stronger) to glue all pieces to your trunk.

*Use the hot glue gun to take a long length of ribbon, round in a U-shape to the back of the. Any color ribbon is fine; festive is great, the idea though it to use what you have around the house. This should be placed again, along the trunk of the tree. If you’ve used the glue gun versus the glue, your project will be ready in no time.

You can either wait until this is drying or immediately begin gluing adornme#4 12-06-09 Craft Projectnts on. Ideas: varied colors of cotton balls, flat sided plastic gems, tin-looking plastic shapes (as used in this picture), bows (tied using the same ribbon). Want to make it even more interesting? Use a glitter glue that’s colored.

After your finished craft has dried, be sure to turn it over and add your child’s name and the date.

You’re done!

You now have a finished, fun and festive craft that was easy and inexpensive to make. Hang these on Christmas trees, door knobs (of course having allowed enough loop in the ribbon), or curtain rods.

You can also add them to cards for relatives as a gift from your child. Note: if you’re adding to the front of a card, use heavier card stock otherwise your card won’t have the strength to hold your new ornament.
