- US Veterans who have served in wars from World War II to the War on Terror will take part in a panel discussion at noon at Aims Community College, 5401 W. 20th St., Greeley. “Journeys of Veterans in Foreign Lands,” will include a demonstration and tasting of selected MREs or Meals Ready to Eat. The presentation is sponsored by the Aims Human2Human project and is free and open to the public.
- The Bureau of Land Management will waive recreation-related fees for veterans and military personnel, along with their families on Veteran’s Day. The waiver of entrance and/or standard amenity fees on Veterans Day applies annually on Nov. 11.
- The first Veteran’s Day Celebration at the Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument is at 5:30 p.m. with songs from the Cougar Chorale, a bagpipe performance, stories of veterans honored at the monument For more information visit http://www.hrvets.org/VeteransDay09Invite.pdf. Proceeds from 20 percent of breakfast sales at The Egg & I Restaurant in the Highlands Ranch Town Center Wednesday will support the Highlands Ranch Veteran’s Monument.
- The Children’s Museum of Denver, 2121 Children’s Museum Drive, is commemorating Veterans’ Day with special programming. Canine Companions for Independence is bringing a story and a service dog to the Museum at 11:30 a.m. to teach kids how service dogs help Veterans and people with disabilities. he kids will get a chance to interact with an Assistance Dog in Training and there will be time for questions.
- Community College of Aurora is having a special event to dedicate the Military Wall of Honor at 1:30 p.m. in the Student Centre Rotunda, CentreTech campus, and will move to the Administration Building for the installation. A reception will follow in the Rotunda. The CCA CentreTech campus is at 16000 E. CentreTech Pkwy., Aurora. Representative Ed Perlmutter and other dignitaries will attend. There will be a posting of the colors by the Buckley Air Force Base Joint Color Guard and the National Anthem will be sung by Randall Matale, a CCA Theater student. Guest speaker John Barry, superintendent of Aurora Public Schools will deliver keynote remarks.
- Fairmount Heritage Foundation is offering free military tours at 1 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec St., and at Riverside Cemetery, 5201 Brighton Blvd., Denver. For Fairmount Cemetery tour, meet at the Gate Lodge; for Riverside Cemetery tour, meet in the chapel. Fairmount Heritage Foundation will be collecting donations at Fairmount and Riverside Cemeteries for the Denver Veterans Hospital. The following items are needed: New underwear and warm socks for men and women, warm hats, gloves and scarves in all sizes for men and women, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, razors, lip balm and paperback books, puzzle books, and water bottles. - Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, is having a Veteran’s Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Guest speakers include Gov. Bill Ritter, Jr., Sen. Michael Bennett, Congressman Mike Coffman, Orin Hatton, National Cemetery Administration, and Brig. General Trulan Eyere, Commander 140th Wing, COANG. There will be a dove release, a flyover by the 140th Wing Colorado Air National Guard, and special music. Info: 303-761-0117.
- As part of a national program, “Hugo Salutes Our Veterans,” free Hugo Folding Canes will be given to Veterans, while supplies last, at the following Sam’s Club locations: 7370 W. 52nd Ave., Arvada; 880 S. - Longmont Veteran’s Day Parade will start at 11:11 a.m., at Longs Peak and Main Street, then south to 4th Avenue, then to Coffman Street, then north on Coffman Street back to Longs Peak. Road closures for the parade will last from approximately 10 a.m. to noon.
- Metropolitan State College of Denver is holding a flag-raising ceremony at 10:45 a.m. at Tivoli Commons, outdoors at the southeast corner of the Tivoli Student Union. The ceremony includes a parade of colors, singing of the National Anthem, raising of the flag and a short presentation by Steven Jordan, President of Metropolitan State College. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Tivoli Turnhallein at the Tivoli Student Union.
- A Veteran’s Day Dessert Reception, free and open to the community, will honor Jewish veterans from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Boettcher Lobby of the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center, 350 S. Dahlia St. Rabbi Don Levy, a retired chaplain, will speak during this gathering, which is chaired by Howard Greinitz. Rabbi Levy served 26-years on active duty in the US armed forces. - Rocket Express Car Wash at C-470 and Bowles is offering complimentary car washes from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. to veterans and currently enlisted military personnel, who only need to inform Rocket Express verbally that they are veterans or currently serving in the military to receive the free car wash. - Sunrise Elementary School students, staff, family members and friends will honor our nation’s veterans and active duty military at 1:30 p.m. with a parade around the school, complete with flags, patriotic signs and banners thanking veterans and servicemen and women, and colorful floats built by each class. Members of the US Air Force 140th Wing, a unit of the Colorado Air National Guard, located at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora will participate as honorees and parade judges. Sunrise Elementary is located at 4050 S. Genoa Way in Aurora.

- Glory of God Lutheran Church, 12200 W. 38th Ave., Wheat Ridge, is having a Veteran’s Day Celebration at 7 p.m., featuring the All Veterans Honor Guard who will post and retire the Colors, and speakers from the WAVES, Korea, and Vietnam.
