Review: Debi Derryberry’s Baby Banana CD
posted by: JoAnn
On May 5th, 2009, Debi Derryberry’s Baby Banana CD is being released to the public.
Claire and I had the opportunity to check this out, and she loved it!
I’d never heard of Baby Banana, but we’re always willing to try new things. Well, I’m so glad we did!
Baby Banana can peel back his peels and fly! He has a Gorilla for a Daddy and a Duck for a Momma. Claire loved that they are referred to as Daddy and Momma, because that’s the way it is here in our house, too.
The songs were catchy and upbeat, and Claire insisted that we listen to the CD more than once. In true smitten preschooler style, she has requested it more than once every day since we’ve received it.
Personally, I was taken off guard by Debi’s voice, because to my mind’s eye, her picture on the CD doesn’t match her voice at all. But, that’s not a bad thing. In fact, there is something magical and childlike with her voice that matches Baby Banana perfectly.
The songs stick with you, and in no time, I found myself singing Oodle the Orangutan to myself.
The CD offers songs from a “blend of calypso, reggae, jazz and folk rock genres” and there is a bonus track at the end of Debi reading her book, “Baby Banana and the Licorice Tree.”
I asked Claire which songs were her favorite, and she listed every single one. She has continued talking about the songs, even when we were done listening to the CD.
“Why did she eat so much ice cream, Momma? Why was she stuffed? That’s not a good idea!”
So, you should check this out for yourself! This is a CD that will stay near the top of our collection for a while! It won’t be long before we both have all the songs memorized. 🙂

This is not a paid review, however, The Casual Perfectionist did receive a free copy of the CD to review. Above photo used with permission: © 2009 Very Derryberry, Inc.
