CONTEST CLOSED. When it comes to hair, it seems you always want what you cannot have. I grew up with bone-straight hair and slept on pink sponge rollers every night. When I hit puberty, my hormones surged like a wave of electricity and curls were borne. I battled them for years with every straightener on the market but few did the job. Until the GHD. Short for “Good Hair Day,” I first experienced its wonders at a Mile High Mamas night out at Sephora. I was an instant convert. Never before has my mass of curls been so sleek, soft and straight. The secret that celebrities like Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett have discovered? GHD’s unique ceramic technology heats up to its maximum temperature in seconds. But unlike other straighteners, it locks in moisture, natural oils and hai...

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) always does a fabulous job booking shows. But I have to admit; this year is off to a killer start, the best by far. I had just seen Legally Blonde a month or so ago. It was sensational. About two weeks after the show, I got an invite for their next performance, Mary Poppins. I was so impressed with Legally Blonde; I was hesitant to sit through another play for the wee ones because I didn’t want to be disappointed. I was WRONG. I saw opening night and it was spectacular. I don’t know how the DCPA does it, but one show is better than the next. The children who play Jane and Michael are beyond talented. They make the show so warm and welcoming. Mary Poppins is not just the perfect singing, sassy nanny; she has some pretty clever special effects...
This is one heck of a clever idea for kids in the city on a Sunday morning, especially if you have early risers. The Pajama Brunch at Second Home located inside the JW Marriott Denver in Cherry Creek is a real gem of an activity for the urban child. Cherry Creek is known for its shopping and restaurants, so embrace the culture and bring the family to this spectacular Sunday brunch. The kids can play and you can enjoy a killer meal. To start with, kids should come dressed in their jammies—children under 8-years-old will eat for free! Let the wee ones have fun and wear their footies. Second Home is transformed into a pajama party and they will fit right in. The waitresses, hosts, chefs and even bartenders are in their pajamas. There are pillows and other nighttime accruement throughout the e...
“What does this say, Momma?” “What does that say?” These are questions I get constantly, every day from my four year old. She’s been asking these questions for years. She comes by this honestly. I have a very vivid memory from before I went to Kindergarten of looking at a piece of paper on the kitchen table and wanting so badly to be able to read it. It didn’t take long, and I was put in the Early Reader category. My daughter has that same thirst. Knowing that my daughter is like me and wanting to foster her reading skills, I was excited to try out the Hooked on Phonics® program. Hooked on Phonics® wasn’t created until 1987, but when I learned to read, I was taught using the same phonetic principals, so I knew it worked. “It worked for me!” as they used to say in that popular commercial. “...
My 4-year old daughter loves playing with play-dough (homemade versions and the official store-bought brand of similar spelling). She loves making doughy objects, serving me food items, and creating her own creatures. She even loves mixing the colors together. Try as I might, this still makes me twitch…but that’s not what this review is about. (Photo credit: Treasure Dough) Recently, we had the opportunity to check out a new product called “Treasure Dough.” It’s made here in Colorado, and I love supporting our local businesses. Plus, I was intrigued by the concept and was excited to see what it was like. We went on to their website, and I let Claire choose the one she wanted to try. (This is not a paid review. We were offered a free bucket of Treasure Dough in exchange for an honest...
The Children’s Museum struts, waddles, flaps, and soars into the month of March with new theme—All About Animals. It’s nearly impossible to find a toddler or preschooler who doesn’t appreciate furry and feathery friends. I took my two youngest children to explore some of the animal-themed activities knowing none of us would leave disappointed. One of the first activities we joined was ARTS a la Carte’s Birds of a Feather. My 3-year-old, Beatrix, would get to hear a story and then make her very own bird with all sorts of cool, colorful art supplies. We were warmly welcomed into the art room. Beatrix was given a large piece of paper and a pencil. The room quickly filled with kids and parents, eager to get crafty. Dana, the activity leader, read Sylvie, by Jennif...
The Science Secrets of Leprechauns Revealed Do the leprechauns visit your home every year on St. Patrick’s Day? Those mischievous leprechauns break into my house every year and wreak havoc. And yes, the leprechauns bring a little science with them. What would St. Patrick’s Day be without a little leprechaun science? When the leprechauns break into my house, the first thing they do is turn the water green. Green water flows out of every faucet on St. Patrick’s Day. Then they open cabinet doors, overturn chairs and lay eggs. That’s right. They lay eggs. And not just any eggs…magical appearing eggs. The leprechauns don’t stop there. They leave my girls a special mix of leprechaun soup to mix up for dessert, color changing rainbow beads, green worms for fishing, snow that turns leprechaun gree...

Guest blogger Sara’s writing can be found at Lunacy. Here she is sledding with her son outside the condo at Powderhorn. Check out her review and don’t forget to enter for a chance to win a 4-pack of tickets! (**See details below.) I was so excited for our weekend trip to Powderhorn, but I honestly didn’t know what to expect. We live in Evergreen, so we’re used to skiing Summit County resorts – miles of back bowls at Vail, crammed in the free shuttle bus at Breckenridge so that we don’t have pay to park, you get the idea. Big! Big mountains, big resorts, big crowds – big everything! Let me preface all of this by saying that my husband loves to ski. He’s made it his goal to ski in every month of the calendar year. He tacks two extra hours...
