February 8, 2012 – 8:00 am | 3 Comments

In this series of blogs, the “Kid Blenders,” I will be addressing our challenges, trying to blend our two families together. The names of the children will be changed to spare the easily embarrassed. Career vs. Stay at Home: How Did You Decide?

I was contacted a couple of months ago by a book publisher. I know. Me.
The email appeared as I was being forced to get jiggy with my daughter and her favorite movie, The 12 Dancing Princess. As I strained to read the email’s contents, Hadley reprimanded me I was not “keeping form? [...]

These are the best years of my life. My kids are old enough to take care of their own bathroom duties and young enough to still believe that I know it all.
We’ve had so much fun this summer. We have biked, traveled, and swam. Often when I am soaking [...]

Last weekend, some of the kids in the neighborhood organized a lemonade stand. They mixed it up, dragged a table down to the corner, colored a bunch of signs, and handed out cup after cup of lemonade to indulgent passers-by.
I had absolutely nothing to do with it all. Except for supplying sugar, water, ice, and [...]

There’s this rule that my husband Allan and I have about bedtime. It goes something like this: You can do just about anything you want to do after you’re all tucked in and kissed goodnight…as long as it’s in your bedroom and it’s done QUIETLY. So if you want to have a party? Have a [...]

I have a good friend at boot camp, Linette. She is in her late-30s and is funny, sweet and successful. She also chose not to have children.
Now, for some women this is not puzzling to me because they are just not “kid people.â€? But Linette is a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and selflessly helps [...]

Guest blogger Angela is a married mom of three who juggles work, school, and life from beautiful Southern Colorado. Her musings (and photos) on balancing it all (or not) can be found at This Woman’s Life.
We knew it was going to happen. We were encouraging it, in fact. The eldest moved into his own apartment, [...]

Things have been kind of rough with my 5-year-old son Declan lately. He has done a lot of growing up this summer, which has been both good and bad. He’s always been a very sensitive, thoughtful child – so to see a wild streak finally emerge is disconcerting. Who is this child leaping off the [...]

What I wish someone would have told me before the emergency room

Let me first say that I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but if someone would have told me some of these things, it may have saved us some dough and my kids some trauma.
`Tis a Flesh Wound
My son was jumping on the trampoline at my brother’s house. [...]
