February 8, 2012 – 8:00 am | 3 Comments

In this series of blogs, the “Kid Blenders,” I will be addressing our challenges, trying to blend our two families together. The names of the children will be changed to spare the easily embarrassed. Never piss off the Mommybloggers
May 13, 2009 – 12:00 am | No Comment

A few weeks ago, as I stood in front of nearly 450 tech nerds for Ignite Boulder, ready to present “Why Mommybloggers Such and What We Can Learn From Them,” I wasn’t all that nervous. OK, maybe a leeeetle. But I knew the people in that room were not nearly as invested in the topic [...]

Her two other favorite people are her daughter Zoe, age 6, and son Elijah, age 3. Love, peace, joy, and kindness are the foundations for her life. She loves to laugh and doesn’t have [...]

I Can’t Always Watch You

Editor’s note: Our mama-to-mama forum is affiliated with a denverpost.com-wide forum that is having problems. Please be patient as we try to remedy the situation.
Sunday afternoon, I took my daughter CJ to the grocery store with me. As usual, she climbed up to hang onto the side of the cart, and as usual, I told [...]

A Village of Witnesses
May 6, 2009 – 12:00 am | No Comment

One of the things I learned early on about motherhood was how open our lives would be as soon as our child was verbal. You have no more secrets when your child starts to talk. None. In our particular situation, our lives have been an open book for a long time now, [...]

The Unsung Mom: A True Hero
May 4, 2009 – 5:00 am | No Comment

It has been five years since I saw her.
I was recently at the post office and she was standing near me in line. Our eyes connected and she blankly smiled. She did not recognize me. She really had no reason to. But five years ago, she left an indelible impression on me.
In the world’s [...]

The Mom Behind the Mom I Am
April 28, 2009 – 12:00 am | No Comment

I was her first. She and my dad had waited nearly 4 years after getting married for my arrival.
Mom and Dad both had a strange sense of humor, as evidenced by the names they came up with for me. Good thing I was a girl and became Lori. If I’d been a boy, according to [...]

How to Prevent “Puke” and “Play Date” from Ever Going Together
April 27, 2009 – 5:00 am | No Comment

I love play dates for my daughter. Not because I particularly enjoy entertaining another rugrat but because Haddie and her friends are finally at the age they can entertain themselves. And if they do interrupt me, I just announce, “Go play. Don’t bother me.”
OK maybe that is not exactly correct. Some days I say, “Don’t [...]

Sometimes she reads books the way Daddy watches TV
April 23, 2009 – 12:00 am | No Comment

I think we’ve reached the stage where we could totally go without naps. And, by “we,” I mean my three-year old, Claire. And, by “totally go without,” I mean she still needs them but I’m not fighting it anymore. And, by “not fighting it anymore,” I mean I’ve resorted to trickery.
Actually, truth [...]

Doing my part for the environment with re-usable undereye bags
April 21, 2009 – 12:00 am | No Comment

My three-month-old son, Archie, sleeps well for a guy his age. He usually wakes once to eat, then easily falls back to sleep. There have been a few nights lately when he’s sailed through the night, no waking. His dreams must have been sweet and his tummy well-settled.
You might picture me falling back to [...]
