February 8, 2012 – 8:00 am | 2 Comments

In this series of blogs, the “Kid Blenders,” I will be addressing our challenges, trying to blend our two families together. The names of the children will be changed to spare the easily embarrassed. And let me be upfront about this: I’m no clinical expert. I’m just a single mom trying to figure life out as I go. But knowing that there are around 14 million single parents out there…I’m guessing that I’m not alone in this venture.

Win a box of Door to Door Organic Produce (or get our discount code)

I don’t know about you but I start getting depressed whenever I enter the produce section at the grocery store this time of year. Not only are my favorite fruits and veggies out of season but the prices are high while the quality selection is low.
But I found a solution to my winter produce doldrums: [...]

King Sooper’s ready to roll out kid-friendly grocery-cart videos

The solution to nagging kids at the grocery store? Entertain ‘em with grocery-cart videos.
King Soopers is rolling out a new line of car-shaped carts that feature animated videos to keep children occupied while Mom or Dad gets the shopping done in peace.
Relative peace, anyway. The price parents pay is a series of commercial messages broadcast [...]

Make Your Day Brighter By Winning a Windex Care Package!

**CONTEST CLOSED. CONGRATULATIONS TO WINNER VERONICA WITTE!**
A couple of weeks ago, I went “Into the Fire.”
Contrary to popular belief, this is referring to a paint-it-yourself pottery studio in Olde Town Arvada and not how I feel every time I do crafts.
Though both are correct.
Windex invited local mom bloggers to attend this evening out as a [...]

Valentine’s Day Product Picks: Goodies for the Family

Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and while I am not one to give into the Hallmark holiday, this year, I couldn’t resist, but only because of Hank the Tank. It’s like once you have kids, you kind of see what Hallmark is all about. I have found two delightful Colorado-based companies that will bring [...]

Mobile-phone programs track steps, beats and calories

No smart-phone application — at least not yet — can accelerate heart rates, inflate muscles or trim waistlines.
To accomplish that, bodies must be moved, not just thumbs, and calories watched.
While apps alone can’t transform a beer gut, they at least offer quite a bit of guidance, and they are legion, offering everything from daily yoga [...]

I Like the New Year and I Like this Book!

Let’s start out the New Year right! That’s why I chose the i like book for kids. What a clever little endeavor for the New Year. It’s more like a workbook for parents and child. Spiral bound and available in four colors (pink, purple, blue and green), it’s the modern day version of a choose [...]

Kid-friendly music adults will like

Good music for kids requires all the same ingredients of good music for adults: talented musicians, a beat that gets you moving, clever lyrics and a catchy melody. This year’s kids music picks have it all. Some albums are mellow, some are rock, some will make you laugh, some will make you think; but whatever [...]

Fine dining WITH kids? Yes at EDGE

“Daddy, why are you letting that man drive your car!?”
Tessa was alarmed when my husband handed the car keys to the valet at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Denver. I realized then that bringing our children to a fancy-schmancy restaurant and exposing them to fine dining was not a bad idea.
Did Roger and I [...]

**CONTEST CLOSED. CONGRATULATIONS TO WINNER BRANDEE WALTER!**
This month, LeapFrog’s founder released a must-have reading program for children ages 4-7: SmartyAnts. I was sent the product and was asked to try it out.
Or rather, my kids were. Last I checked I’m a pretty good reader.
Problem is, my 6-year-old daughter Hadley isn’t. I’ve struggled to [...]
