Dear Mama Drama:

With all the recent news about the earthquake, tsunami, and possible nuclear meltdowns in Japan I’m concerned about my children. I want to address their fears, but am not sure where to start. I would love your advice!

Dear Mama Drama:
I am the mother of two girls and enjoy being active in their school. I volunteer in a variety of ways in the classroom and in the school in general.

Mama Drama: Mad Mama

Dear Mama Drama:
I struggle with a low tolerance for frustration with my children when I am tired or not feeling well. Most of the time I handle things well and other times – seemingly out the blue – I just lose it with them. I feel like a good [...]

Mama Drama: Positives for Power Struggles

Dear Mama Drama:
My four-year-old son has become exceptionally defiant and I am at a loss of how to respond.
When I ask him to do something, he tells me no. When I tell him to do it or he will not be able to watch TV or he will lose his toys he isn’t cleaning up, [...]

Mama Drama: Where DO Babies Come From?

Dear Mama Drama:
When and how should you start talking about sex with kids? My 6-year-old daughter has yet to start asking questions but I know her friends have. I want to be proactive but don’t want to broach the subject before it is time. Also, do you have any books/resources to recommend?

Mama Drama: Discussing Death and Dying

Dear Mama Drama:
I have two children ages 3 and 5. We have a family member who has been diagnosed with cancer and her prognosis does not look good at this point. I’m not sure how to tell my children about this or even if I should tell them. I also don’t know how much to [...]

Mama Drama: Is Santa Real?

Dear Mama Drama:
Do you have suggestions for the “Is Santa real” question?  My eight-year-old asked me very directly if we did the presents and I feel like I need a better response than just running out of the room (which is what I did).  He later asked my husband the same question.
I feel like we have [...]

Mama Drama: Stay at Home Success

Dear Mama Drama:
We have recently adopted a three-year-old twins. I am fortunate to be able to stay home to help them adjust to our family and bond with us.
I love children and am thrilled to finally have two of my own, but I have little experience with keeping them busy for an entire day. [...]

Mama Drama: Merry Moderation

Dear Mama Drama:
My daughter is three and is starting to understand that the holiday season means presents. I have seen my older nieces and nephews become obnoxious and greedy at family gatherings, throwing tantrums when they don’t get exactly what they want.
I’d like to prevent my daughter from being so obsessed. What ideas do you [...]

Mama Drama: Discipline for Deceit

Dear Mama Drama:
My 11-year-old son has a real problem with lying. He lies about anything and everything – how he got injured, who he was playing with, etc. He doesn’t seem to be trying to cover his tracks but just doing it for the sake of doing it.
My son is [...]
