New laws ban simple childhood pleasures

For most of my childhood, I avoided red balloons. I had a theory: Red balloons pop more than any other color. I see how silly this is now, but for years I was convinced if I blew up a red balloon or received one at a party, my heart would soon break. POP.
Why did I [...]

No, it’s not a scene [...]

School Picture Sticker Shock

Back when I was growing up, “real” photos were a big deal. My parents owned a camera, but it was only used for special occasions or the rare candid moment. We’d have to wait for them to fill a whole roll to have them developed and only then could we see what images [...]

Protective parenting faces new highs and lows with technology

In the 21st century, parenthood and paranoia often walk hand in hand.
For some, the blessed event is followed by high-tech surveillance — a monitoring system tracks the baby’s breathing rhythms and relays infrared images from the nursery. Toddlers and grade schoolers can be equipped with GPS devices enabling a parent to know their location should [...]

Is Proposition 103 Good Enough for Your Kids? (And Why You Should Care)

This November, Colorado voters will have the chance to stop additional cuts to Colorado’s schools and to start reinvesting in our kids. Proposition 103 is a simple proposal that offers a five-year time out from school cuts by going back to the sales and income tax rates that Colorado had throughout the 1990s. All [...]

How Do You Teach Your Child About Disabilities?

I have had a rough year. Health-wise.

Could delaying kindergarten be a detriment to your child?

Last year, I wrote about the kindergarten dilemma. Mainly, whether I should enroll my son on time or hold him back a year so he would be one of the oldest vs. youngest in class. It was one of our most highly-debated posts ever.
In the end, I enrolled him.
I have not regretted my decision. [...]

According to the state of Colorado, 121,000 people possess valid medical marijuana licenses and Colorado has more than 750 dispensaries. Like it or not, we are on the front lines of the medical marijuana industry with a potential ballot issue on legalization a year from now.
What numbers like that, children are bound [...]
