“Whipping it Out” Turns Breastfeeding Moms into Deviants

Not everyone is comfortable with breastfeeding in public. I understand people have varying degrees of exposure to the act and art of breastfeeding. I fully respect other viewpoints when they are made respectfully and thoughtfully.
However, I find myself bristling when I hear the following from people who are on the anti side of nursing in [...]

When lawmakers expanded Colorado’s child passenger safety law from “under 6″ to “under 8″, they included a one-year [...]

I was a free school lunch kid (and does your family qualify?)

Ever since our son Hugo was born, my husband and I talk more about how our families lived when we were young. Slumber parties have never been for the faint of heart, but a slumber party in the age of texting and tweeting is a veritable contact sport.
Which isn’t to say they should be avoided altogether. But if you want to escape emotional bloodshed, you’ll approach them with equal parts caution and strategy.
“I don’t think the goofy [...]

Avoiding the pitfalls of kids flying alone

Sending your child on a flight alone can be overwhelming for a parent—from packing the right things to making sure the kids are fed.
Adding to the confusion, not all airlines follow the same rules, or charge the same fees for children flying solo. Yet hundreds of thousands of kids fly on their own each year—about [...]

Pleeeeease, I need advice for ending the whining

Q: Your 5-year-old has a renewed penchant for whining since starting kindergarten. What gives?
Parent advice: There is no deadline for whining. It can last forever if you let it. The next time she whines, tell her you stop listening when she uses her whiny voice. If she will use her regular voice, you will listen. [...]

Is it really time to prep for school? Yes.

Where did the time go? In our school district, there’s only a scant three weeks of summer break remaining. How in the world do we break all the non-school compatible habits that have taken hold…late bedtimes, daily ice cream and frozen yogurt rations, long hours of mindless fun.
