February 8, 2012 – 8:00 am | 2 Comments

In this series of blogs, the “Kid Blenders,” I will be addressing our challenges, trying to blend our two families together. The names of the children will be changed to spare the easily embarrassed. Tips For a Successful Fourth of July

Independence Day, or the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday celebrated in honor of our nation’s Declaration of Independence, adopted on July 4, 1776. The purpose: to declare the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Each of the Thirteen Colonies partied in style on that day decades ago, as [...]

Nurturing a summer love of reading

As much as I’d like to boast that my daughter is drawn to books without school to occupy her thoughts, it is actually the computer that captures her attention.
Any number of websites or games draws her to my MacBook minutes after waking. American Girl. Poptropica. National Geographic Kids. At this point, my questions go unanswered. [...]

Lazy Summer Days…in Highlands Ranch

School is out for summer…yet somehow things don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. I feel blessed to have so many exciting activities ahead, but sometimes a day at home sounds like a vacation. Oh, the many things I would do with a beautiful summer day – nothing on the agenda – in the [...]

DAM exhibit will break the mold on clay artistry

Forget the romantic image of a lone artist huddled over a partially modeled clay figure in a garret-like studio.
Instead, Kim Dickey and a flurry of assistants have spent long days in recent months working in an open, caged storage area in the middle of a vast warehouse building operated by the University of Colorado Distribution [...]

So, if you’re interested in activities in NW Denver….

Summer is upon us. Eeek!
As a parent, my excitement about the open-ended days of summer is tempered with dread. Don’t get me wrong: I love hanging with my kids. But sometimes… well, sometimes Mommy is Too Boring. (Not to mention bored to tears at the thought of playing yet another round of Spiderman vs. The [...]

The Gifts Teachers Really Want

It’s that time of year again, when children pack up their desks, say goodbye to friends and give a final farewell before springing into a summer of endless sunshine and fun…followed by dog days of summer, indoor air conditioning, boredom and whining.
And that’s when we gain a true appreciation for our children’s teachers!

How to Make Love Potion

The greatest thing about love – it’s an innate gift – it lives inside of us and we can, and should, give it freely to others. Appropriate to the relationship and situation, love can do amazing, life changing things. A hug, a kiss, a pat on the back, a helping hand, a kind smile, a word of encouragement, [...]

Cinco de Mayo – Festivities and Crafts for Kids!

Any day is a day to celebrate, but tomorrow is an official day of celebration – it’s Cinco de Mayo! So, get out your party hats (or sombreros) and put on your dancing shoes, and get ready for some Latin fun. This type of cultural lesson is one big party – especially if you celebrate [...]
