Charmed by Snakes at The Denver Museum of Nature and Science

There’s a zoo at The Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
But it’s not lunchtime in the atrium or the parking lot on a free day. 60 creepy, slithery, and totally fascinating creatures have been collected into one fun-filled new exhibit called Lizards and Snakes. Recently, our family spent an evening getting to know the critters [...]

The sky’s not the limit: New IMAX and Planetarium shows unveiled

You think the wind was bad last month? Then you don’t know about the 1000 mph winds on Jupiter. You remember that below zero cold spell we had in 2011? That would be a heatwave on Uranus. Did that Superbowl pot of chili lead to some odiferous effects in your family last week? Think about [...]

50 ways to spend a snow day

Another day, another snow storm. Here are 50 ways to spend a snow day:
Make an abominable snowman. It’s like a regular snowman, but less friendly to passers-by.
Practice multiplication and script with your kids. That’ll put them in a REALLY good mood. For older kids, break out the practice tests.
Delete all of the expletive-laden “music” from [...]

Four years later, my daughter and SolVista Basin are still going strong. Touted as one of Colorado’s most family-friendly resorts, this mountain offers some fantastic terrain, [...]

How Young is Too Young to Learn to Ski and Snowboard?

Growing up in the town of Salida, in the Heart of the Rockies, had it’s disadvantages…and if you’ve ever read the list of “you’re from a small town if” then you know what I’m referring to, ha. On the brighter side, living just a short drive from Monarch Mountain Ski Area – and having not [...]

Ideas for Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day With Your Kids

Martin Luther King Jr. Day always creeps up on me. After the frenzy of Christmas, this important commemorative holiday goes unnoticed at my house.
