Putting Sam’s Club’s New Scan & Go App to the Test (and loving it!)

Not all apps are created equally and some of them cause more headaches than they’re worth (cue 99% of the apps on my kids’ phones). There is a lot of technology that claims to make our lives easier as moms but very few deliver like Sam’s Club’s life-changing new app, Scan & Go. And yes, I said life-changing…as well as game-changing. 

How would you spend the perfect day in Denver? Visiting the Denver Museum of Nature and Science? Taking in a concert at Red Rocks? I’ll bet standing in a check-out line is at the bottom of your list and Sam’s Club’s Scan & Go app makes that a thing of the past. We put Scan & Go to the test one evening at Sam’s Club. For once in our lives, we weren’t battling the crowds (note to self: go on a weeknight  during dinner) but the app is so easy that it made our trip even more seamless. Here’s how it works:

  1. Download the free Scan & Go app for Apple or Android. Link your membership number to the app and add your credit card information to the Payment Methods. 
  2. Scan your products with your phone’s camera when placing them in your cart.
  3. Checkout through the app when you’re finished.
  4. Skip the checkout line and show your mobile receipt at the door.
  5. Jump for joy that at least one thing in your life is easy!

My kids enjoyed taking over the scanning and I loved that the app kept a running total of how much I was spending, I was able to remove or add items throughout our shopping trip to ensure I stayed within my budget. And, unlike self-checkout at the grocery store where I constantly run into problems and need to call over for help, every scan was seamless with the app. 

After my family completed our purchase, we had to stop by customer service for an exchange. Bode had just received some birthday money from his aunt and spotted some bamboo pillows on our way out. “Mom, I want to buy these,” he begged and my initial thought was I don’t want to stand in line and go through check-out again…then I remembered. I whipped out my phone, scanned the QR code, clicked “check-out,” walked over to the Sam’s Club staffer 20 seconds later and showed him the “receipt” on my phone, which he promptly scanned.

“Don’t you just love this new Scan & Go?” I asked.

He enthusiastically responded, “It makes my life so much easier. Plus, customers just seem to love it.”

Jamie interjected: “He has to say that, he works here.”

I disagreed. If there’s anyone who will let you know if something works, it’s the people who work there and we’re all calling Sam’s Club’s new Scan & Go a win!
