Mompreneur: How My Medical Emergency Now Has Me Breathing Easy

Mompreneur: How My Medical Emergency Now Has Me Breathing Easy

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I am breathing easy these days. Not figuratively, but literally.

All of us have exposure to life struggles that shape us, mold us and even change who we are forever. My story was the latter; one that changed my life forever.

Once upon a time, there was a young mother with two healthy and energetic toddler boys. She was expecting her third baby, this time a little girl. The young mother knew this pregnancy would entail sacrifice similar to the first two. Her doctor informed her that each pregnancy would result in a pre-term delivery, so she willingly went on bed rest at 16 weeks. As the pregnancy progressed, the winter days were long; filled with re-runs of Dora the Explorer and Dragon Tales.

vera3Spring was just around the corner at 26 weeks. It was countdown time as the third trimester approached and the young mother had every intention of keeping this baby in the womb to 37 weeks. Then, within an instant, there was an excessive surge of blood and the mother’s pants were instantly soaked with warm blood down to her ankles. Thoughts of losing this baby girl raced through her mind as she lay on the floor listening to the ambulance sirens blaze down the street. Neighbors came over to tend her two boys as she was rushed to the hospital.

During the next six weeks, bed rest became permanent and the hospital became this young mother’s permanent home. She was only permitted to get up to use the restroom and a 5 minute (sitting down) shower every other day. Placenta previa was the diagnosis, something that could not have been prevented. A cesarean section would be the plan to deliver the baby. At 32 weeks, as her body passed orange-sized blood clots, it was finally time. The young mother was whisked away and Kaylee Mae was born just over 4 pounds.

Kaylee spent the first three weeks of her life in the newborn intensive care unit. She was healthy. Her lungs were underdeveloped and she had oxygen breathing tubes. She needed to eat well and gain weight before coming home. When Kaylee arrived home with breathing tubes, the young mother urgently became attentive to what her baby girl was breathing. After all, this young infant was taking 3 times the amount of breaths per minute compared to her mom. Needless to say, candles and air fresheners were tossed in the trash can. Windex and bleach became obsolete in the home. Fresh air became a priority and breathing easy gained seniority.

Birth of a New Idea

Fast-forward to 2009. Kaylee Mae was 7 years old. She was healthy and happy. The young mother was also happy and healthy as she ventured out to share her story with others. With a penchant for cleanliness and a desire to own her own business, Kimberly (this young mother) grabbed a bucket of cleaning supplies and set out to naturally clean Denver, one house at a time. Her house cleaning company VeraClean, opened its doors and has been clearing out toxins from households ever since.

vera2Frustrated with the non-disclosure of billion-dollar cleaning products and non-transparent ingredients, Kimberly set out to work with top-notch natural chemists to formulate cleaning products and personal care products that would prove to be safe and effective in every household, office and school setting.

Just in time for Spring 2015, VeraClean launched their private line of retail cleaning products and personal care products, including items such as Lavender Lily Hand Lotion, Quality Thyme Hand Soap and Natural Antibacterial Cleaner!

VeraClean products can now be purchased at a discount through their Kickstarter Campaign.

“Some people may call me an over protective mom, but can you blame me? After hearing my story, it’s easy to see why I’m so picky about what comes into my home. What we breathe truly matters. Dangers lurking around my home are a thing of the past. I want our home to be a place of refuge, where we are safe and protected. I can honestly say that I sleep easy (and breathe easy) at night, knowing that I’m doing everything I can to keep my kids safe and healthy.”

  1. I love mom entrepreneur stories like this. Seeing a need and filling it. Your products look wonderful.

  2. Kickstarter confuses me a bit. Can you buy the product outright or are you just raising funds and if you raise them, only then we can get the product?

  3. Great job, Mama!
