Events: Boulder County Fair & Kid’s Cure for Cancer Run

Through August 5. Celebrate the bounty of Boulder County at the Boulder County Fair—festivities begin on Saturday with the fair parade through downtown Longmont. The fair’s carnival midway also opens at noon on Saturday and Sunday for a sneak peek. Monday and Tuesday are reserved for livestock judging, but the fair reopens in earnest on Wednesday with activities for the whole family. Look for a vintage farm equipment show, rodeo competitions, a karaoke contest, a scavenger hunt for kids and a petting zoo. Listen to live music in the Fair Garden, too, and check the schedule for special events like demolition derby, bull riding, mutton bustin’ and “Ballet on Horseback” riding shows. Parade: 10 a.m. Saturday. Downtown Longmont. General fair hours: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday through August 4; hours reduced on August 5. Boulder County Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont; 720-864-6460. Admission is free. Tickets required for some special events; buy at King Soopers locations or at bouldercountyfair.org.

Sunday. Make strides to help children with cancer at the Kid’s Cure for Cancer run/walk at Washington Park. Kid’s Cure, which includes a 5K and a 1K fun-run for youngsters, benefits Brent’s Place, a “home away from home” for families staying in Denver while a child receives cancer treatments. The race is the main event, of course, but participants and spectators can stick around for a pancake breakfast, entertainment, a community fair and the “Kid’s Corner”—a kiddie hangout with games, face painting and prizes. 8 a.m. Sunday. Washington Park, 701 S. Franklin St. Through today, online registration is $35 for participants ages 18 to 64, $25 for participants age 17 and younger or 65 and older. Day-of-race registration is $5 extra. kidscure.org
