Events: Theatre Hikes Colorado & Gunnison River Festival

Through Saturday. Cool down high-country style at the Gunnison River Festival. A celebration of all things whitewater, the fest brings together serious sportspeople, amateurs and families in a salute to aquatic fun. Tonight, everyone’s invited to join in the Gunnison River Games, a collection of skill and luck challenges—they’ll all be on dry land, with live music accompanying. In addition to competitions and demonstrations, Saturday features a laidback Community Raft Float, a special kids’ zone, an “inflatable rodeo” and the Hooligan Race, where brave boaters create rafts out of whatever non-boat items they can patch together. 6-9 p.m. Friday. Legion Park, East Virginia Avenue and Teller Street, Gunnison. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Most events at Gunnison Whitewater Park, Highway 50 West and County Road 38. Registration required for some activities; fees range from $10-$30. Kids’ Zone access is free. gunnisonriverfestival.com gunnisonriverfestival.com

Sunday. It’s a unique combination: Theatre Hikes Colorado mixes Shakespeare and outdoor adventure in their production of “As You Like It” at the Colorado Chautauqua. In it, the audience hikes the Chautauqua trails, encountering scenes from the Bard’s play along the way. The outdoor setting is appropriate—the show tells the story of Rosalind, an exiled noble who wanders the Forest of Arden in disguise, and finds excitement and love along the way. Wear clothing appropriate for a moderate-level hike, and keep in mind that the show is best for kids age 10 and older. Additional dates: June 30 and July 1, 7-8, and 14-15. All shows start at 11 a.m. at the Chautauqua Picnic Shelter. Colorado Chautauqua, 900 Baseline Road, Boulder; 303-442-3282. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for Chautauqua and Colorado Mountain Club members, $15 for kids age 10 and younger. chautauqua.com
