Gift Ideas For Tech-loving Dads

Scrambling last minute to find a good gift for the tech-loving dad in your life? Go through our list to learn about some great options (and where to find a free 4G phone for him)! He may have dropped a hint or two – be sure to pick out something he’ll appreciate (which may have nothing at all to do with the world of technology).

New dads as well as seasoned ones enjoy all things digital, so why not give him something extra special this year? Don’t be a cheapskate – dads deserve to be spoiled once in a while.

Books:

If your husband is the kind of dad who loves to do geeky experiments with your kids, then why not get him the Geek Dad book set so he’ll never be short on ideas. Wired’s Geek Dad extraordinaire Ken Denmead says this about the series, “Parents often want to spend that mythical ‘quality time’ with their kids, but the thing that often gets in the way is having an idea as to what to do. The Geek Dad books are meant to provide a wide range of interesting projects, experiments, and games that don’t take a lot of preparation, use materials you likely already have lying around, and offer hours of fun with a side order of education.

The Geek Dad Book for Aspiring Mad Scientists ($11.69)

The Geek Dad’s Guide to Weekend Fun ($12.24)

Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share ($6.80)

Phones:

T-mobile sale all 4G smartphones free! Today is the last day of this father’s day sale, so if you want to spoil dad with a fast phone, hurry over to your closest T-Mobile store! Remember, the “catch” is you must consent to a 2-year service agreement.

TV:

Check out this stellar combo sale: 6 Months of Hulu+ and Roku HD ($79.99). Hulu is running for this Father’s Day. Hulu + is a subscription service that allows users to watch tv shows the day after they air and hundreds of episodes of seasons and shows gone by. It’s great for families who can’t afford cable tv but still like to keep up with their favorite shows. Roku HD is a streaming option for HDTVs (as opposed to watching on the computer) that makes it easier for the whole family to enjoy TV shows in all their glory.

Smartphone Cases:

Defender Series with Realtree® Camo ($59.95) by Otterbox is a splendid option for the outdoorsy dad who cannot do without his smartphone in the wild. This Fort Collins based company has gained worldwide acclaim for their incredibly successful protection technology. Dad won’t have to worry about impact damage with this incredible case. I couldn’t be a bigger fan of Otterbox – they’ve saved my phone more times than I can count.

DualFlex 1Up for iPod Touch ($34.95) by Speck is perfect for the smartphone gaming dad. It’s comfortable grip fits into the hands like a gaming controller and is perfect for tilt-to-control games. If your kid’s daddy doesn’t want to wrack up the monthly bill an iPhone would come with, why not get him an iPod Touch and this amazing case so he can still get his gaming fix no matter where he’s at?

FabShell Luxe for iPhone 4/4S ($49.95) by Speck is a classy case made with genuine leather for the classy dads out there. It’s smooth, it’s sexy, and it’s appropriately durable. One thing’s for sure – Speck knows how to make beautiful cases. This phone  is for dads who don’t like bulk and most likely won’t be taking their phones on outdoor excursions and comes in a variety of colors so you can get just the right one to match his preference.

SmartFlex Card for iPhone 4/4S ($34.95) by Speck is great for the dad who doesn’t like toting around a wallet AND a phone. It’s the updated version to the hard shell card case and makes exit and entry of cards and cash much easier. My husband is a big fan of this case – it has almost made his wallet obsolete!

Rubber Band ($29.99) by Musubo is a new case on the market that doubles as a stand for movie watching. It’s really nice to look at, feels nice in the hand and the kickstand it comes with is great for when dad wants to share a fun movie with the kids. It’s also a great option for plane rides (placing the stand on the tray table works great). If the design won’t suit your man’s fancy, take a look at their other options: Ripple Case ($29.99), Eden ($34.99), Retro ($34.99 and my personal favorite), or the Matchbox Pro ($34.99).
