Denver Deal: Day of Rock, Arts Festival, Globetrotters, Rapids and more
The official start of summer is upon us. Yes, Memorial Day the glorious three-day weekend that starts the summer of fun. I got to spend a fun weekend with my kids last weekend in Glenwood Springs. I understand it was rainy and not such a great day in Denver – but on the other side of the state it was beautiful! One of the best parts of the trip was taking my kids on the hike to Hanging Lake. There are signs as you begin the hike that say that it is a difficult hike and to be aware. But I was so proud of both of my kids as they made it to the top. My daughter tells me that her feet “bounded to the top” because of her new shoes (the Keens Arcata that we received in the mail a few weeks back). Either way – the hike was great and I got some amazing photos that I will be sure to include in my annual yearbook. With a weekend like that – summer is sure off to a great start!
Denver Day of Rock
Downtown will literally ROCK this weekend with a free rock concert on Saturday, May 26, 2012 when 25 bands take to five stages for Concerts for Kids third annual Denver Day of Rock. Spend a rockin’ weekend in Downtown Denver with discounted hotel packages.
Denver Arts Festival
In addition to the music festival, the Downtown Denver Arts Festival features 125 Colorado artists who exhibit and sell their work all weekend long (May 25-28). Meet the artists and join the 150,000 people at this show throughout the holiday weekend. Even more activities, including sporting events, parades and fireworks, can be found on the VISIT DENVER website.
Other out of town Memorial Day Events
Memorial Day also brings the summer of festivals. There are several events that are happening in mountain towns not so far from Denver. In Boulder you will find the Bolder Boulder race; In Steamboat Springs, CO the Yampa River Festival; The Paddle Festival in Buena Vista, CO; Beaver Creek Blues, Brews & BBQ’s Festival in Beaver Creek, CO and Territory Days in Colorado Springs. Even IKEA (which can sometimes be seen as a town of it’s own for how big it is) is gettin gin on the Memorial Day action by giving away Blue Bags. If you are in town or not, there is plenty to do!
Shutterfly Photo Book
Every year, I put together a yearbook for my kids – of all the fun things we have done over the year. But thanks to Ellen DeGeneres and Shutterfly – you can get a free 20-page photo book for Mother’s Day. Turn all those photos you take into a professional looking book that the kids will enjoy more than a bedtime story! Click here for more details (you have until May 29th to use it).
